First post so I'll introduce myself before I jump right in. I'm going to look at a '07 XB12S this weekend. It has about 4200 miles on it, and other than a scrape on the frame slider it looks like it's in really good shape. I'm going to be making about a 250 mile round trip to go see this bike so I don't want to have to go look at something I didn't think of this first time. So I'm wondering, other than the obvious things (tires, belts, oil...) what else should I be looking for?? |

Listen for crank noises (like a hammer on an anvil at low RPM loads). But at that mileage, there should be no problem. Look for wobbly wheel bearings, broken motor mounts, sheared exhaust mounts, ill conceived mods, bent rims, etc. If you haven't heard a Buell in person before, the top end should sound like a handfull of quarters in a blender. Not really that bad, but almost. |

If it has frame pucks look carefully for a dent underneath it |

Size up the owner - his attitude, respect or lack thereof for the bike. Ask to see maintenance records. At 4200 miles, the biggest threat to this bike is the question of abuse. Good luck, the S is an amazing machine. Post pics if you get it. |

Good luck Blackjack. I bought a 08' XB12S last March with exactly the same miles on it. The issues I ran into were mostly due to the bike obviously sitting around. Both tires needed to be replaced since the rubber was old, hard and very slippery. It ran rough for a while. The ECM had not been updated (installed EBR Race ECM). I had a number of bolts work loose within the first couple of months (shift linkage was first to fall apart on me). Look for oil leaks around the cylinder head (seat off). Report back after you see the bike. |
