Thank you for posting this. While this method is a valid test, another method that is especially useful on a non-running bike is to introduce compressed air at 10 psi or a bit less into the intake with the valves closed and then spray soapy water on the seals which will make bubbles in the case of a leak. This method not only has the advantage of being useful on a non-running bike but also eliminates any damage that might be caused from harsh chemicals on more delicate materials such as plastic, rubber, paint etc. I have no idea how to set this up for use on an XB but on a carbureted bike an adapter plate can be made from UMHW or similar plastic (or even a piece of plywood) that bolts to the carb mount. A hole, tapped to fit an air jack installed in the center allows an air hose to be connected. If you would consider researching this method on an XB I would be eternally grateful. WD40 could also be used but it is a thicker liquid,so you would not get a less good noticeable response on leaks, and WD40 takes to long to evaporate, and is flammable when hot, a non aggressive brake cleaner ( thanks Reepicheep for noticing ) is our best choice, positive response and not to messy gr, martin ( BUD ) | ||

Is this a common problem on 2008+ XB models? I have an '09 XB12XT and would order the upgraded kit if it fits and is prone to problems. | ||

good question, mine's an 09 w/20k.. I get slight surging at steady 35ish MPH. is that the symptom? | ||

Bike_pilot the problem is there in 2008-2010 XB models only les, Our parts is not fitting on the 2008-2010 models. Fotoguzzi Yes that can be a sign of a intake leak but you need to test it propper to be sure. A lack of fuel can also do this (poor mixture) |
