I hit the on button and everything seems normal, hit the start button and I hear the relay clicking but nothing else. the headlight isn't coming on but all other lights working. the battery is brand new and fully charged. I checked all the fuses. could this be from a short in the headlight? or something Im missing? any help would be greatly appreciated | ||

Weak/bad ground. Add a physical ground jumper direct from the negative post to the frame, use heavy gauge wire. | ||

Ii tryed that and still the same. As bad as I am with mechanical stuff, I'm lost with electrical. | ||

The list, as they say, may be long but it is distinguished. If you are confident in the battery, and you are sure the battery cables are firmly connected, try the simple stuff. Get into the fuse box and swap the start relay with one of the others. They are all the same. It could be that the relay itself is in 'practically fail' mode. If that doesn't work, look in the service manual and find the wire to the starter from the start switch on the handlebar. Unplug that at the starter, hook up your multimeter, and press the start button. You should see 12V. If so, all from the battery to the starter is probably good, and the fault is most likely in the starter solenoid. Hope this helps, Dave | ||

battery is good, switched around the relays. ill try to unplug the wire to the starter next. | ||

Does the headlight not work at all? What occurred prior to this? Historical info is always good. It's very unusual to have a good system bite you without warning, ie - it was working perfectly , i switched it off, now it does'nt work!! | ||

change the grey relays with each other. I have read somewhere on here that no headlight and not starting probably means that one of the relays is not working. | ||

Sorry, history would help. Started fine rode it about 10 minutes to the dentist and when I came out it didn't start. Turn key, push on button and hear everything cycle like normal, push the start button and just hear the relay click . I put a new battery in it (it was about time anyway) the headlight doesn't come on at all. I tried switching the grey relays around and no difference. | ||

You stated you checked all fuses, but double-check your headlight fuse, and maybe swap a fresh one in there anyways. I had a neutral safety switch give me a similar problem. Once replaced-everything was good. Part-20 bucks and takes no more than five minuets......Period! | ||

Thank you everybody for the advice and help. Very much appreciated. The first thing I checked was the fuses. So how the f^€k did I miss the blown headlight fuse???? Guess I will always check twice from now on lol. Does seem odd to me that the headlight fuse would keep it from starting but I guess everythings connected. On the bright side the bike is up and running and as always I love the way the badweb folks are always there for advice. Thanks again! Thomas | ||

First, Great To Hear!!! Glad the bike is running again. And I learned something. Now to get back into the wiring diagram to try and figure out why a bad headlight fuse would cause starting issues. Glad it is fixed, Dave | ||

Safety interlock. I've seen the same issue before, someone pulls the lights fuse for a trackday, now they can't start  | ||

On the R version the low beam is driven from the ignition circuit (or so says my service manual). |
