Hello all, I have been trying all the different combinations out and have some questions / comments. I rode my XB9R stock for two days then had the race kit installed , liked it.I then bought a new 12 box and tried it out, liked it, felt the difference. Next I drilled out my stock 9 box and put it on as a Guinee Pig , noticeable improvement over the 12 box. With the noticeable gains from drilling out the box I felt drilling my 12 box out would be great. I swear I had more bottom end with the drilled out 9 box . anyone care to comment ??? I am tempted to buy another 12 box and leave it on or just put the drilled out 9 box back on. I even had my TPS reset after drilling out the 12 box, no difference. Just a not too, my dealer didn't charge for the reset. |

Assend dynos don't always tell the whole story. Hard to say as I never drilled out my 9 box only my 12. Food for thought though. |

i ran my 12 airbox as-is for a while then gutted it...I didn't drill it, but cut large sections out of it, leaving enough for it still hold/seal the air filter in. took it for the first ride yesterday...it's much louder but pulls just as hard if not a little more down low...I haven't had a chance to ride steady at 4K or so for long enough for the ECM to adjust to the change, but I'll let you know if any big changes occur. |

I'm going to cut everything away except the very top and bolt it down. I also drilled my exhaust out this weekend. Made it a little bit louder and hasn't affected anything yet (no fouled plugs, missing, etc.) K&N coming in this week along with some Buell frame pucks.....I can hear the wife already............. |

That was exaclty my plan too Odie. I planned to reroute the oil hoses and use those holes for bolts to hold the plate over the airfilter down. |

This is what I plan on doing this week using my 12S airbox top.Draoidh did this one. Looks good and he said he hadn't had any problems. (Message edited by odie on August 30, 2004) |

I'm also going to make a heat blanket for underneath the bottom of the airbox. |

I'm thinking about this mod. It would be rather easy actually. |

Here’s my version. It was cloudy when I took the pics, I think they would have turned out better if the sun were out. One thing I noticed is the airbox looks a lot lighter blue than the City-X with the inner airbox under it.

Alright, that is just cool looking. That almost makes me want to paint my bike blue and put that setup on it... |

I think Cowtown has found out what makes the CityX airbox cover cool! Nice work...what's the rest of the bike look like? It is a 12S right? |

Yeah, you can tell by the handle bars and there is no fairing on the front, has to be a 12S. Looks real sharp man, I like! |

Yes, it’s a black 12S. I also have the City-X flyscreen. I want to mount a chrome horn centered above the headlights and behind the flyscreen. When I finish I’ll post pics. Glad you like it. Other than the City-X covers the bike is mostly stock, just filter, ECM, Drummer and frame pucks. Even if someone doesn’t like the hero blue, the airbox conversion is a fast and cheap modification. |

Do you still have the amber wheels? Could you post a pic of the full bike? I would imagine that your setup with the black wheels would look just awesome. |

Ok, Heres my question with all due respect: Everybody seems to be talking about airbox drilling and open filters, and I get what the aim is. After looking at my xb12r intake setup, it appears that the stock air box is roughly the same size as the air box cover (the colored one)-the only significant difference in volume I see is where the depression is for the exhaust valve actuator. So.... If the outer cover is almost the same volume and the outer cover has no external holes or scoops added, how does extra air flow get into the air box by drilling holes? Aren't they basically covered up by the outer cover anyway? Can someone clarify this and also does anyone have actual before and after dynos? xbolt12 |

That does look sweet. The dark frame compliments the blue cover much better than the light grey does IMO. Love to see some more pics as well! And can I ask the price of the blue cover? |

Xbolt, some people either buy a new Airbox cover (outer cover) with holes in it or cut holes in it to allow more air to be forced into the airbox. (Message edited by SouthernMarine on August 31, 2004) |

Here’s how I ran the breathers. I turned the valves so they are pointed at each other along the right side of the frame. I ran a hose between them with a T in the middle pointing down. I cut just enough hose to use as a connector to attach another T with the ends pointing down and forward. I ran a clear hose down a couple of inches past the frame so I can see when any oil collects and plugged it. I ran another hose forward and up over the rocker cover following the curve of the frame along the front and then back along the left side of the frame. I attached a crankcase filter behind the coil. I don’t have the black wheels. I agree they would look good, but the amber wheels do look nice when turning. I’ll take some pics of the entire bike after I get the flyscreen on. I bought the airbox cover and flyscreen from “Daves” in Appleton, WI for $246 including shipping. |

Cowtown I wonder why you wd. choose to filter one end and not the other as u can suck dust etc. up the un filter end?? Wd. it not just be easier to run the hoses in conjuction to a small catch "T can" that one could drain if needed and one filter... |

I run a small, fabric valve cover breather filter on my Wide-Glide. Works good. Picked it up at Auto-Zone. |

I ran another hose forward and up over the rocker cover following the curve of the frame along the front and then back along the left side of the frame. I attached a crankcase filter behind the coil. Two valves, connected to one hose. Then two hoses from that, one plugged, one filtered. |
