Came upon some extra cash last week and thought maybe now was the time to get another XB. (had a 9R) Did a quick insurance check with Progressive on the XB9SX and came up with $1079 per year! Same for the XB9R, 12R, and 12S. 38 years old, single male, no tickets. Nationwide Insurance was a little higher. I'm not paying more for bike insurance than I do for my car so I went with my second choice, a V-Rod. Insurance is about half of what they wanted for the XB. I know, two totally different bikes but with the discounts on the 04's, I couldnt pass it up. Has everyones XB insurance gone through the roof?

Some has and others no. I pay $600 a year full coverage with AAA but I think that both AAA and the state of California consider my XB12R in the same category as my XL1200 SPORT. At least thats what AAA told me.

I am 27 and single. My premiums are only $411 a year. I had to do some shopping around to find that. But hey, gotta go with what you feel is best.

Every state is different, coverages we choose differ. So it's impossible to really compare.

The rate for my XB9S dropped from $550 to $420 for the year. However, Geico came in at $375 so both my XB and Harley tourer are now covered by GE.

prof... is absolutely correct.
Different state and coverages=different rates. It would be tooo easy to have ins. for 400/yr.
Good luck Roy.

New Jersey is one of the highest insurance rate in America and I am only paying 600/yr but then again I am using USAA... I was paying 650 with Rider insurance but there is no medical coverage though... Sorry to hear about your mishap. but then again atleast wouldn't have to worry about back problems in the future

Dang, 22 here and I wish I could get mine that much. I pay $1200 a year for an old 93 FZR and that's liability only.

Progressive pretty much did that to everyone. I told them to stuff it. Got a rate of less than half of progressive's renewal rate from geico.

I went with dairyland. I'm paying $1015.00 per year for both the XB9S and the Ducati with full coverage and I have one really bad accident on my record and numerous speeding tickets. : (

I dont know if you belong to BRAG or not but go through harley insurance they deal with only top rated bike insurance companies and they got me a discount for being a BRAG memeber and for switching my insurance from another company. saving me over a grand, making my payment much lower, i was going to sell my buell until i called Harley, just something to look into.

In NY the insurance co had my XB listed under a HD last year. I was only paying a few hundred for full coverage.

Now it seems like the insurance people are listing the XB`s as sportbikes and doubling or tripling the rates here. The same policy is about $1200.

I've got an S2 and an M2. One insurance company considered the stock S2 a SportBike and tried to raise the rate on it. That policy lasted about a week until I went with another company.

i can't believe you Geico guys, i have everything i own through Geico with the exception of my bike. I am 27,Married and they wanted 1300 plus for my bike alone. I pay just over 1300 for insuring everything else i own. (House,Boat,2004 Mazda RX-8,2001 Dodge Dakota)

Geico hates bikes in Idaho apparently.

P.S. I have ZERO CLAIMS and no tickets!

I too have everything with Geico. I'm in Dallas and they wouldn't insure my Buell either.

Personally, I don't think Geico really cares about gaining or loosing one account. It's unfortunate, but true. They gave me a "sucks to be you" attitude just before I got off the phone with them. "Call back again to see if we cover your area in the near future."

Here's to you, Geico!...

I checked the Geico web site. The price I got with Nationwide on the V-Rod was $577. With the same coverages, Geico says $301! I'll give it a couple of weeks then switch over. I didnt check on Buells since it's a little late for that for me! Loving the V-Rod though! A definate learning curve on riding it though.

AAA insurance on house, and cars. Married, 45, no tickets (keeping my fingers crossed and radar detector on), So Cal, around $450/year for the XB12R. I do have a high deductable to keep the rate down and I told them it will be driven less than 5k per year. Shhhh!

Isn't The V going to cost you $8-10000 more than a 12? I think the diff in price may pay the insurance overage for 20 yrs?

Steelshoe, Actually, I got the V-Rod for $2000 off MSRP because it was an 04 model. That plus employee "incentives" put me on a great bike with a great price. I know just about any Buell will eat the V-Rod in corners but man am i liking this thing more and more every day!

Paroyboy,

Glad you're happy with your new bike!

So,
Just curious ... what was the final, out the door, price you got that V-Rod for?

Thanks.

With the $3000 I put down after selling my Aprilia scooter, and the $1200 tax/tags they added, I'll owe about $11,000. Not complaining!

Geico stopped insuring my bikes 8 years ago. Try Fernet, they are a insurance broker, they look around for the best price for you. I ended up with progressive. http://www.fernet.com/
