Good day .. seems I have stater problems any help? Thanks No the motor does not turn over. You go to start the bike and you just hear the starter spinning. Motor doesn't turn over at all. I was able to push start it and it ran fine so maybe the starter isn't engaging? The past couple days it would turn the motor over and start, but it was very sluggish starting. But once it started up, it ran fine | ||

The bike only has like 13,000 miles on it....I have not heard of starters on these given anyone problems over the last 4 or 5 years being on this forum..Have I missed something? Thanks  | ||

Have the battery tested, see if that is in good shape. | ||

It's most likely the drive on the starter acting up. You need good battery to operate the fuel pump for the engine to run, so according to your description the battery is "OK". | ||

Well battery of course is up to speed.. etc. Hmmmmmm Just any others have problems with their own starters especialy at such a low mileage..myself never heard of starter problems on these xb really.... anyone else have starter problems.etc. ? | ||

Sounds like the bendix isn't engaging. Pull the starter, shoot 12 volts to it and see if the bendix extends the gear. If not the starter is suspect. Common problem on old Chevys. The Buell starter is just a small version of the old GM 3510. And to add, no haven't really heard of starter issues on XBs. With that said though, it wouldn't surprise me if it was bad. Sounds like a starter rebuilt kit is needed. My kit was $70'ish bucks a couple years back. Real easy to do. You'll need the large left side primary gasket too. Starter bolts are behind the clutch basket. You'll need to pull the starter to test it anyway and might as well do that work while it's out. Mine had the clicking and no spinning with a new battery and needed the kit. Good luck... | ||

Well guess Like I thought..Not a common problem on these xb starters as a rule...So are all xb starters the same from a 2003 to 2009 doesn`t matter if its a 9 or a 12? Think I may have one from a 2003 not sure if it will fit the 2009? | ||

I don't think the starters have changed much since the Evo sportster came out in 89; It has had the same base part number since then (31390) so it should fit. New starters are about $300, the parts book for my sportster has a solenoid repair kit (31603-91) and I checked an online dealer and they had a price of $55. | ||
