I'm looking to do some work to my 06 XB12Ss to accomplish a sport touring kind of feel. Long open highways that wind get get tiring.

Would love some suggestion on where and how to find some fairings/windshields that don't take away from the natural beauty.

I find a tank bag solves two touring issues on my Ss. It's a place to pack stuff, and it provided just a tad bit of wind protection. You do have to learn to bend you elbows and lean into the wind a bit to find that neutral balance. Once you master that, it's really not bad. Unless it's raining of course. I've managed 600 mile days like that with little problem. I find the saddle heat to be a far worse problem if it's hot out.

Otherwise, American Sport Bike does carry a slightly taller windscreen for the XB that keeps close to the same look... http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-prodshow/9142.html

if you can go with the change in looks, you can change the nose out w\ ULY. Plenty of windscreens to look at then.

Been out to California, up PCH1 and back twice with this setup on my Ss: CeeBailey's windscreen and Cortech saddlebags.

Over 4,000 miles both times in 1 week.

I live in Houston.

YMMV,

Yep, that's it. Wife had a tank and tail bag on her Duc that helped too.

Between the 2 of us we carried tools, spares, and enough change of clothes for 4 days. We did laundry in Napa, our halfway point.

Wife has had enough of touring on her little Monster though so I got the parts to convert the Ss to a Uly tail so she can ride pillion and I can mount some larger hard cases. Planning a 4-day trip around FLA via Key West that should be pretty easy but the 2-week lap around the continental US will be a challenge. : )

I've been looking into the SS to X tail conversion as well. From my understanding the 12Ss and 12X have the same subframe??

so all you would really need for the conversion would be the seat, tail section, passenger brackets/pegs, and the triple tail??

Need to drill holes in your subframe rails.

I didn't wanna do that so bought the whole tail section including subframe rails, tail pan, etc. Also got the shifter bracket that relocates the shifter lower to accommodate the lower footpegs.
