...so I am performing my 5000 mile maintenance and I am ready to check my primary chain tension. 1 of the 2 bolts on the inspection cover was really loose--I did't think anything at the time, I was just surprised how loose it was. I adjust the tension and replace the inspection cover and that same bolt won't get any tighter--it just spins and spins. YEP, the threads on the primary cover are stripped!!! The dealer that did my 1000 maintenance must have over tightened the bolts and stripped the threads. Now I have to go to the dealer and explain this...I am sure they are going to say it's not their fault. Has anyone had a similar issue? Would it be smarter to go directly to Buell? |

A few guys have had stuff stripped by dealer svc. Your best chance is with the dealership. }Hand svc mgr the 1k svc reciept, state your case, hold your ground until they give you a free primary cover. Ask for a shop manual @ cost, if you don't already have one. They stand to lose more with no-charge shop time than cost on a part. Best to do this on a Saturday, when the svc dept's full of customers listening to see how they'll be treated if they have an issue down the road. You can always tap it to the next size fastener, but having a scab fix like that on my bike would make me ill! Good luck. |
