The last couple of days when I have rode my XB12R At 3000rpm 60mph steady cruise I have noticed a slight engine miss. I am not talking about a continuous miss; more like a single miss then the bike is fine. Just a slight hesitation. This bike is brand new with 450 miles on it as of right now. It doesn't do this any other time. When I get to the twisties it accelerates great and is completely smooth and fast. It just does it at steady highway speed every once in a while. It is not at all consistent either. With 450 miles it is almost to the 500 mile break-in period. I wondered if any of you had experienced this when your bikes were new? Is this just a quirk of the fuel injection or do you think something is wrong. Will it improve as it is ridden more? |

Al I'd say ride it a few more hundred miles not worry about it a whole lot. These bikes tend to run better after break in. |

They do tend to loosen up a little. I think that's normal ESPECIALLY if the bike isn't hot. If it's not up to FULL operating temp they can do that (if mine is any indication). I guess I don't get it much at 3000, but at 2800 a little. I think it's the nature these engines. They have character . You'll notice they smooth right out when your having fun... Even at lower rpm's. |

My 12S had the same "problem". It seemed to clear up after about 1500 miles however comes back from time to time. I think it is the ECM trying to calibrate for temp / altitude changes (live in the mountains over here and do a lot of ups and downs) If this occurs I just keep it at 4000 for a couple of minutes and it runs fine after that. |

My 12R does the same thing. Usually only when the engine isn't completely warmed up. It always stops after the engine is hot. |

But VERY fun . It's just character. It's not a Japanese/German/Italian bike. There's nothing wrong with it. It's doing exactly what it should. Have you ever driven an old cammed muscle car? They have lots of character too. It's a good deal of what I love about my 12R. |

There's a reason that high power old V8's that have carbs idle above 2K RPM's. It's difficult to supply fuel properly to a large cylinder at the lower RPM range. I think the FI system does a nice job, but there are inherent "character issues" with a 1.2 liter 45 degree V-Twin that makes more than 100HP. It's a bit like having an old Ford 289 w/ >400HP. Trust me, it would run a lot worse at the lower RPM's. |

It's the Sporty engine design for the most part. Every newer Sporty and Buell I've ridden does the same thing. My wifes Sportster did exactly the same thing as my 12S does occasionally and usually when it was cold...... |

Your right, usually it does it when it is cold but Sunday it did it when it was fully warmed up after a long ride. That's why I asked you guys because to me it seems like the ecm doing it's thing so I thought it could be normal. I just wanted to make sure there was not an electrical gremlin present in the ignition. Like you said, when your on the gas in the twisties it runs perfect. Thanks. |
