hmm. ran great at the track, beat the crap out of it. started fine when I drove it home from the track. This morning I got suited up, rolled it out of the garage at 5:45am, turned the key on. First I noticed that the headlights didn't come on. wierd. Then I hit the 'on', hmm no fuel pump sound. well I know its not going to turn over now but I hit it anyway and nothing. I checked all the fuses, tapped a few things, fliped the switch and key serveral times, still nothing and no headlights. At the track I did unplug the headlights, but it was fine all day, and I plugged em back in to leave. so?? anyway, I wiggle the right conn. going into the ecu and hummmmmm, wtf? the fan comes on at full speed. I wiggle it some more and when I do, the fan turns on and off. still no fuel pump or head lights. well its now 6:15 and I have to change clothes and run for the train. just got to work and I'm gonna be pissed all day. fkr |

I'd bet you got a loose connection somewhere. Tough luck too on a Friday even. Good luck to ya. |

Did you check the main fuse under seat. The one not located with the rest of the fuses. I also had a one of the diodes in the fusebox stick and keep mine from starting once. I just unplugged and replugged them and then it started up. |

It doesn't sound like it'll be too hard to fix... Hard to diagnose though? maybe... |

the gauges do their sweep, taillight is on and bright. I did unplug one diode didnt try both. not sure about the damn ecu wires turning the fan on when I wiggle the connection. at least it didn't happen at the track or on the way home. |

Someone else had a problem after running the bike with the headlights unplugged...that was WAY back in like February or March though... |

Misato...don't know if this is the same but I just put lower bars on my S. Went to ride and the fuel pump worked and started. Rode and when I stopped and put the stand down with clutch pulled in it went dead. Tried to restart in first w/ clutch pulled in no fuel pump or start...nothing. Put in Neutral perfect start. The problem was the little pin sensor for the fuel pump under the clutch that extends out when you pull in the clutch. If it doesn't come out far enough it will not trigger the fuel pump. I repositioned the clutch and BAM! Sarted right up. The change was only a few millimeters of travel for the pin. Maybe from that track day the pin isn't working properly Just a thought!! Hope it helped. |

thanks, I'll have to check all that. what really bothers me is the fan comming on when I wiggle the ecu connection. I should have used a sick day to fix it. |

Misato, can't help with your problem, but certainly agree that your bike's condition constitutes an illness and therefore a sick day is called for. At least that would have been my justification. Good luck with the issue. Dan |

Maybe your bike is telling you she wants to storm the tracks from now on, not the streets where she has to stay in check. Good Luck, I'm sure you will get it worked out. |

Battery maybe? Check the connections with the battery also. A lot of time it can be traced back to that. |

yeah, pulled out all the relays and put them back in and its fine now. wierd. the fan came on because there was a short in the wire harness, it rubbed on the negative battery terminal. stupid crap. runs great once again. |

I noticed the battery terminal rubbing through my harness when it was brand new. I notified the dealer and NHTSA. Another thing to keep an eye on (on an S anyway) is the wires coming out of the ECM -- if they're not folded over, they'll rub on a rib under the seat pan. It'll rub right through to the copper. Also (on an S), the main harness where it runs along the left side of the battery tray -- it's awfully close to the part that retains the battery strap. These are things you don't think about so much on a bike that doesn't shake as much as ours... |

I'm with Cataract... My wifes died just around the corner from my house. I pulled the seat and the batt connections were tight, but I unscrewed them anyway. Yep, black arc marks. Scrubbed em clean torqued em' down and havn't had a problem since. I'd at least remove the batt cables to check. Worth a try. |

That's good to here Misato. Too bad you had to be pissed off all day over something simple. Well I guess it beats bein' pissed at a catastrophy! |

Misato, I know I'm a little late, but I'm glad you found the problem. I just wanted to relay that the battery tray edge that 2k4xb12 talked about earlier was exactly where my troubles happened. So all you XBS'ers out there keep a close eye on your wiring harness. |

Misato, Yup had the same problem. One of my relays had a little melted spot on the bottom of it. I replaced the relay and haven't had a problem since. |
