Messed with the tuning on an XB12ss today with one of my mufflers on it. First logged ride, made some changes, looks like fuel will get close to maxed out at around 2500 rpm or so. I saw 244 and 249 for cell values in that range as I recall.
Original run from last year vs today, 6 ft/lb more torque, 3-5 hp more almost everywhere. 5-24-13
Tim, the tuner at Gateway Big Dog tells me that if I lean it out a little more (13:1 a/f ratio) I should see at least 3-4 more ft/lbs of torque and about the same for peak hp.
No, that was the previous one I'd built last year. The motor is stock, so based on the factory literature, it should have made 92 hp and 70 ft/lbs of torque at the crank. That equates to about 74-76 hp and 55-57 ft/lbs at the wheel, which is what I'd always seen advertised as an average.
A race pipe with an ecm might make 80-82 hp and 62 ft/lbs, so this is in line with what I was expecting out of a motor with 35k+ miles on the clock. It may make a few more hp & ft/lbs of torque if I can manage to tune it properly, it's excessively rich down low. Well, everywhere really.
I need to finish tuning this as it is first since it's at 11.5:1 with the throttle pinned at redline. I have a spare 12 TB to use if that's what's required, but I didn't want to go there right off the bat. Both pipes ended up right above 60 ft/lbs at the end of the run but the only real difference between them was fuel.
That was just where the guy started out at. 4th gear, 40 mph, it's a superflow dyno, same as EBR. It's considerably better this week after leaning it out some, fuel mileage went up from about 30 last week to 48 this morning and it's pulling pretty nicely. A few more people heard it yesterday and today, including some guys at the factory. I _think_ they liked it. I especially loved EB's candid review of loud pipes in general, right before he heard mine. It wasn't too loud for him, at least not this version.
