I dug deep I promise....Im new to a 06 Uly/EBR ECM/Drummer exhaust/K&N filter, and been studying up on TPS resets etc with all the gear I received with the bike. Like so many here it pings pretty bad at times. Posts says retard the timing by turning the plate counter clockwise 1mm to start. My concern or question was one of the posts indicating retarding the timing will lean it out possibly further compounding the detonation? Granted simply retarding the timing by the plate cannot alter the A/F but is it something in the programming that will be picked up and then alter the mix? Anyone care to elaborate here?

If you have an E.B.R. ECM; you should contact them for troubleshooting or tuning advice.

Far as retarding the timing goes. I retarded the timing on my '06 Uly for pining a few years ago. The amount needed to resolve the pining resulted in a severe performance drop, in standing start acceleration, and, midrange passing.
I put the static timing back to stock and it's been there since.

Find better fuel?

I would work with E.B.R. on that if it's their ECM. Changing the static timing is just the wrong fix, though it could be done. The problem is that timing will be retarded where it shouldn't be and everything will be working poorly. I had similar issues with my '06 XB12Ss. A bit of trial and error let me retard the timing in about 6 cells on the timing map to get it under control. I'm not sure if you can use ECMspy with the E.B.R. ECM though. It all has to start with the static timing being set correctly though.

Check and make sure it was timed right to begin with... it might be advanced from the factory. My 9 was (not a bunch, but enough to make a difference in pinging).

Ratman do you know what your tps is set at? I have a ebr ecm and had same problem ,it was not set right and it would ping. BIKE WAS RUNNING LEAN it does not get set to stock setting. I had it at Harley and they F it up, had to fix myself it runs great now .make sure your intake gaskets are not leaking.If you need to know where to set hit me up.

I did the static timing and found it way off from the factory as it all looked untouched. Im slightly to the left of center buy a c'hair but it runs like a scalded ape and dosent ping anymore.I am back to running the stock muff and ecm also. TPS was reset hot and all seems sorted now. KInda miss the Drummer and Race ECM though. 2 quiet bikes...Pffttt..whats the point. Where I live there so damn motorsport unfriendly it brings me great pleasure to piss the Prius owners once in a while.
