Hello I have a friend who has a 2005 XB12, his dip stick is totally different from my ulysses on the uly i read 3X for a good level while hot his on has like 2 rings on it, which do you recommend as a good level for the oil when the bike is cold (the mechanic than worked on his bike over loaded it and didn't bother changing the oil filter) I suspect ti must be mesuared with the dip stick fully screwen in. This is the dip stick: http://www.ebay.com/itm/B1-Buell-XB9R-XB9-R-2003-Swingarm-Oil-Level-Dipstick-/310510311352?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item484bdb57b8&vxp=mtr Thanks (Message edited by pontlee77 on December 12, 2012) |

I think it needs to be near the lower ring when cold, this is a very rough guess so don't commit it to stone. It would be safest to pull out more oil to lower than the first ring, then start it up until warm and see where it sets. If it is near the lower ring still then go ahead and let it got up to operating temperature so you can really check it. |

Dry sump oil system. The only proper time to check the oil level is right after you shut off the fully warmed up bike. If you check it cold, some of the oil could have drained back into the crankcase, making it appear low. If you add oil then, it can over fill, causing problems. I check mine a couple of minutes after I get home, and/or at fuel stops. Engine off, bike on side stand. Oil level between the "rings". |
