I think you need to speak with Buell directly instead of with your dealer. I wouldn't trust the dealer in any fashion. Ultimately they will tell you there is nothing they can do, its dealers choice. End of story. |

Exactly... Which is why I think his dealer/tech is not worth his paycheck and because of that he didn't find the problem in time and decided that instead of spending more money/time on the issue he would just tell the customer that "buell said...". screw that. Anyone notice my comment above about the cams? |

Yeah, my heads never came off. That one would be the dealers choice. I sort of gave up on the whole thing. My Buell tech is pretty good, I think. Since I've got a good background in air cooled stuff and an elctronics trade behind me, he was more than happy to keep me involved in the whole process... My own qualifications were kind of well suited to this problem. I think I know what the problem is. Either too lean 4,000rpm and up, or too advanced. Personaly, I feel I could have proven the problem either way given the oportunity to make a couple of dyno runs... I wasn't going to pay for the runs though, since it's a warantee issue. And who cares what the real problem is if the answer is still going to be the same. I got to talk as high as Brad Wacker (Morgan and Wacker, Birsvagas). M&W brings the HD and Buell product into Australia. The Tech asked me to draft a detailed description of all the symptoms, all the action we took, how this was affecting me... I even made the point that a mate of mine who was intending to purchase a Buell (XB9S, though) had decided not to. He just bought a Z750 and intends to spend the change on making the Zed perform better... Anyhow, point is, in this document I made it clear I wanted to be consulted directly. I made it clear to evceryone i actually talked to that i wanted the Buell guys in the states to call me at any hour, I didn't care about having my sleep disturbed, I cared about having my bike work. I sometimes say 'I'm over it all now' but the whole thing had taken months to get no real solution, I'm a little bitter about it now. I just had a belt fail after 6,200k's. The rubber had delaminated. I' waiting for them to decide if they'll cover it. $430 for a new belt at jsut over 6k is a bit steep i think. I don't expect they'll cover it. I just keep getting let down. Each time I get this kind of response, the Muell design brief becomes a little less Buell. I'll be replacing the ECM with a completely programable aftermarket FI/ignition. If the belt isn't covered I'll replace it with a chain. I get the feeling, soon I won't even be able to call it a Buell any more... I get a ansty letter from that woman at HD saying my claims my bike is a Buell are a breach of copywrite... I love the bike, though, don't get me wrong. I just don't feel the love... 5h1t, yamaha rebuilt the gearbox on my R6 when i broke it. Yamaha told me they'd only had race bikes fail in that manner. They asked me repeatedly if I'd ever raced it. But they still footed the bill for over $1,000 in parts and all the labour, plus all the lab testing they did since all the gearbox components went to Yamaha for testing... And you know, that's what i expected from Buell. I guess I was wrong. I have spent the last 3 or 4 years raving about Yamaha's customer service and tech support... I don't think I'll be raving about Buell's, though... Thinking about the differences in support sometimes makes me regret my purchase. Then i go for a ride, and it feels better... I am becoming my own customer service. |

What a shame,Brad. So far my Harley dealer has complied with all the little problems I've had with my bike. Nothing major yet!! Should any big complications arrive, I would expect them to repair them without so much as a frown! They gotta honor my warranty or I'll have them crosseyed with legalities. I'm a fighter and God help them if they pull any crap on me. I have the power of the press on my side and can(and have)tarnished the rep of of a few businesses due to their lack of concern or respect of my legal rights! I sometimes have to re-do my customers jobs and either lose profit or eat the job altogether in order to satisfy my customers purchase and I expect the same for me. I REALLY DO EXPECT BUELL AND H-D TO HONOR ALL WARRANTY ISSUES I HAVE WITH MY BIKE FOR AS LONG AS I HAVE SAID WARRANTY. If not....There will be a lot less Buell purchases(at least in NY)in the future! |

That's where they got me, the warantee is on the bike. Now the bike is back to stock it works, so they've held up their end. They also held up their end on the ECM and gave me a refund. So, legally it's all good. I don't really feel that's in the spirit of the thing, though. It's a factory ECM for the model bike i ride... Interesting note, I haven't received my warantee card... Must also chase that up. Oh, and the certificate i have from teh dealer is a 12 month... Hmmm... time to step up and sort a few things out. Easy to get the 5hit5 on and not bother, but that'll get me nowhere fast. Oh, the dealer has helped me out on a lot of things. But when the factory says go back to stock and it'll be fine, the dealer really has his hands tied... I think they are a bit embarassed and do try to stick up for the factory... But I know bu115hit when i smell it. I am still worried about the pinging having caused damage in the cumbustion chamber, especially after seeing Opto's plug... |

Yeah that plug was pretty foul Trench, I've retarded the timing a little (from stock standard) in preparation for summer, ecm didn't like it much and it took quite a while to adjust, it's not running any hotter and fuel economy is the same or better. I figure slightly retarded timing is gonna do a lot less damage than pinging. Thinking that a digital eng temp readout might help in this situation. I noticed there's unused space in the RHS of the instrument cluster, don't know if I can get in there yet. |

TT, Know any good aircraft mechanics or a good diesel shop? If you want to take a peak without pulling the heads. Find someone with a boroscope. Jet mechs use them all the time for inspecting the innards of the engines. |

Be careful complaining about HD customer service on here. I know for a fact that the Buell customer service techs come on here and read our posts. He read my post and decided not to fix my bike because I complained on here. |

What the hell do I care... Seems they (Buell USA) refused to fix my bike so it's not like it's going to make any difference... I did all the research and worked WITH the tech, him and I were essentially feeling very alone and isolated. They couldn't possibly offer me less than ZERO customer service, could they?? BTW, Brett, thanks for the loan bike, that was above the call of duty... Pity you have to sell a product that's not supported properly... |

This just in, Buell have decided to replace my belt, thankfully. I guess I may have been a little cynical with my "I won't be holding my breath" comments... |
