Hello all, I bought an 05 XB12S in May and everything runs great except when I start the bike it seems the starter motor stays engaged because I hear this whining noise that stays on until I shut the bike off. For those of you that have this model, is this normal? |

Are you sure you are not mistaking it for the whine of the fuel pump? That will run constantly while the motor is running. |

Not sure if this is the fuel pump. This noise is somewhat loud and can be heard over the engine sound. The sound is the same the starter makes. |

Primary chain way too tight perhaps? |

It can happen, does starter get real hot fast? |

If the starter IS staying engaged; it won't do it for long. Eventually it will over heat and seize or throw the windings out of the armature. |

Ok so this whining sound I've been hearing has been going on since June. If the starter was bad, it would have gone out by now....3000 miles later? |

When you turn the key on, without starting the bike, do you hear the whining? If so, what you're hearing is the fuel pump. |
