Whats up guys? I just took my Drummer and Race ECM off my 12 (you all know why), and went back to Stock....so you want to know the differences?. Not as much as you might think. Bikes simply runs "free-er" with the Race ECM and Drummer pipe. When I say free-er, I mean it feels like it winds up a LITTLE easier. It certainly breaths better. As well, with the Drummer and Race ECM, you can obviously hear more of the internal mechanical noise (lifters, springs, valves) working. Clicks, and ticks. Pings caused by the RACE ECM? Nope. I think some of the noises that worry people with Drummer (or Race Pipe)/Race Kitted Buells are present even with the stock ECM and stock pipe but cannot be heard as easily due to the noise restricting stock muffler and full face helmet when riding. Bike pulls SLIGHTLY weaker now in the high RPM zone. Low end torque is still amazing even with a stock setup (but we all know that about the 12’s). Starting the bike is just as easy with the Stock ECM as it was with the Race ECM. Start and walk away. I even tried to run the bike without a helmet to compare motor noise between Stock Setup and Race ECM/Drummer. Sure the Stock setup is quieter, but when I listen closely, the motor is making the exact same noises as it did with the Race ECM Drummer, but much more quietly. Ticks are still present (but whisper quiet) at around 3000-3500RPM, Exactly as the ticks were present but louder with the Race ECM at those RPM’s. The Drummer/Factory Race pipe is like a megaphone, and it amplifies all the motor noises, not just the amazing exhaust note our Buells create. Fuell consumption – The same. Yes guys, the same. My light still comes on after 210KM’s of highway riding at 130KM/h in 5th gear with the Drummer/Race ECM or with the stock setup. Ill miss my Drummer/Race ECM combo. Ill miss the sound. Ill miss the trick pipe style, and Ill miss the race twin feel that it gave my Buell. Did I mention Ill miss the SOUND?? I do not think that the Race ECM hurts the motor on the XB’s in any way. I think if anything, it helps to prevent pinging. It puts out more fuel right??? Anyway guys, hope this answers some questions….Opto, I know you were looking for some info.. Any more questions, please ask… Jack P.S. Drummer and Race ECM (XB12) for sale. |

If I were you and had no problems with the ECM, I'd run with it in. Won't hurt anything running with stock exhaust, and most probably help keep it from running lean. At the very least you're still happy, and that's what counts. Wish I could afford your Drummer, I bet you have no trouble selling it. |
