Is there a way to tell the difference between the two when it's installed on the bike? The reason I ask is because I recently purchased an xb9/12 hybrid track bike. The bike started life as an xb9, but an xb12 crank, flywheel, and header were installed. The previous owner did a great job on this bike concerning taking weight off of it, modifying the wiring harness, etc. After all of the little things I've noticed that he did and the money he spent, I would think he would have converted it to an xb12 throttle body, but I'm not sure. Is there a good way to tell just by looking at it still installed on the bike? |

If it is an early XB9 then it will be a two piece TB with longer injectors. I'm pretty sure later years went to a single piece TB and the same injectors so you would need to look in the TB throat and see what is stamped on the butterfly. I think in the last few years they all may have used the same TB. |

Like Greg said about the '03 but there was no XB12 in 2003. 2004-2007 and 2008-2010 bodies look the same on the outside but are just bored to a different size. You would have to measure the bore diameter. |

I kinda figured it was just the bore size but I wasn't sure. I am new to the XB's. I know the 1125 really well- still learning the ins and outs of the XB. I'll see if I can measure the butterfly to see what I am working with. Assuming it is still an XB9 throttle body, would I be better off trying to find one from a 12 or sending mine off to be bored/re-plated? The bike is an '05- so I should be shopping for the '04-'07 version, correct? |

It should be stamped in the butterfly unless it has had a custom bore. I'm thinking 43 for the XB9 and 45 for the XB12 but I might be wrong. |

Yes, '04-'07 versions will work for you. The XB9's are 45mm and the XB12's are 49mm. I have not seen any throttle plates with any number stamps that indicate size. |

Pretty sure my 03 was stamped with the bore diameter. |

Next question. There's currently an XB12 throttle body on eBay w/ a broken butterfly shaft. Could I use the shaft from my XB9 throttle body on the XB12? I would think the TPS would be same between the two as well as the plate screw hole placement. Just thought I would ask first. |

still need to reset tps with any changes like that. even between 2 xb9 tb's there will be a difference between relative tps readings. |

I thought that the xb12's have a 52mm TB from 06 the one on ebay is a 06 ,so if that is an 52mm tb and the butterfly plate is reusable you can use it with the xb9 shaft (probably you have to grind the shaft a little on both sides to make it fit the 06 plate. |

Lots of 03 TB's on ebay. I think the broken one is not worth that much, if they had a make an offer button I might offer up about half. |

Nope, all of the XB12 bodies are 49mm. I'm not sure if the 45mm throttle shafts will fit a 49mm plate. There was a change in orientation of the TPS flats on the shaft either 2006 or 2007. As long as you use the corresponding TPS you should be fine. |
