Ok, I know this subject has been covered to death, but I cannot seem to find any definitive answers out there on the interweb. I want to use ECMspy to burn the racemaps for my bike I found on Buellmods.com to my ECM. I understand that I should not be burning the whole EEprom, just the maps, this seems to be the case for the 04-07 bikes, but I have heard on the 03's you can burn the entire Eeprom. I assume it would be safer to just burn the maps on the 03's as well, correct? The instructions I have seen are as follows: 1. Load race eeprom without bike plugged in and save the race maps to my PC. 2. Connect bike to pc and fetch my Eeprom, then save it and the stock maps to a few different safe places for backup 3. load the racemaps I had saved earlier to my fetched eeprom. 4.Burn the maps 5.Perform a TPS reset, and I should be good to go, does this sound right? I just want to make sure there isn't anything different I have to do to my bike since it is an 03. I have heard of people having problems burning just the maps on the 03's. Also, in addition to burning the race maps to my stock eeprom, are there any other changes I need to make with ECM spy(other settings to copy over ETC>>> Thanks! |

If the map you want to burn is from the same type of ECM, i.e. BUECB for example, then you can simply burn the entire map. If you are trying to get maps from a different type of ECM, then you will have to load just the maps. I'm pretty sure this doesn't bring in the info contained in the "Other Maps" tab though. You will have to just edit any necessary changes into those tables manually. From what I understand of your situation, you are wanting to copy from a race ECM to you stock one, so you pretty well have the procedure down, PLUS manually change any table in the "other maps" tab that are different. There may still be changes that you don't get doing all of this, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to know about that. Those changes can still be done as I understand it by editing the hex data at the correct addresses. I would make sure that if you are doing this you get detailed instructions from one who knows, and follow the instructions to the letter. |

I basically just want to load the 03 race maps to my ECM to richen things up a bit, as I am now running a modified stock exhaust, and I am sure that it leaned out a little. I will have to compare and contrast the "other map" information to see what is different. |

You really don't need to do a tps reset unless the ECM itself is removed. The tps reset is very overrated. |

This is carb maintenance with clean hands! It's really not that hard once you get your head wrapped around it. That and FI tends to be far more reliable in the long run. |

Long run? like sensors failing, on a bike that parts arent made for? Meh. I'll take a run of the mill carb any day over electronics. you need a whole support system of wiring to think of. But to each their own.... |

Plenty of carburetor horror stories to go around too. The same sort of arguments were made when they added the complexity of a transmission too. But yea, to each their own... |

Does anyone out there have some maps they could send me so I have something to start out with? The race maps I downloaded off of Buellmods.com actually look leaner than the stock maps(if i am reading them correctly) I have searched all over and can't find any that look right. I have a K&N filter in the stock airbox with a modified stock pipe(internal pipes removed and three baffles welded into place instead). My email is alakowicz@hotmail.com. I am also looking for someone local with a patch cable they may be willing to let me borrow for a few days. Thanks, andrew |

thanks for all of your help Hammer! Appreciate it. Remember that show "sledgehammer" that was on back in the 80's about the crazy cop that used to sleep with his gun? Off topic, but for obvious reasons your screen name reminds me of it |

Thats funny! I was about 2 steps away from joining the Airforce back in 92, then a broken wrist from skateboarding ended that trip. My Dad(10 years Air force, then 20 years police officer) was none too happy about that one. Guess thats how I ended up in Life Insurance |

Big thanks to Hammer(for the maps) and Sam0000Kent(for loaning me his cable). Got the maps loaded up this weekend after a few slight hiccups. Bike runs good. still a little bit soft on the bottom, but get it up to around 5 grand and she takes right off with a noticeable improvement in power over stock. It also seems to run noticeably cooler now, but then again it was 35 degrees when I took it out Saturday morning |
