Hello, new poster here.
I laid down my 03 XB9S last week on the right side at approximately 35 mph. Damage done: bent handlebars, obliterated foot peg and brake pedal, and the throttle became stuck WIDE OPEN before I ran over to turn it off.
I put on a new peg, pedal, and set of bars from buellster parts. I have the cables unhooked from the throttle body housing, but it is stull stuck full throttle when it gets turned on. There is only a small abrasion on the cable that I see.
Any help I can get on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

So the throttle body has no cables attached and it's still stuck wide open?
Is the throttle shaft broken or something?

I only detached the cables from the throttle body housing on the handlebars. Other then that they are untouched.

I would say ,check on the manifold (under the airbox)
to see if the butterfly or throttle shaft is stuck or damaged.

I took off the airbox and and pulled the throttle cables. Only one cable moved the valve, while the other was extremely loose and did not move at all. Does this mean I only need to tighten the cable or what?

You need to figure out if it's sticking wide open, and if so, why.

The throttle body should have a spring pulling the butterfly closed. My guess is a mangled throttle cable somewhere.

With the air filter off, you can look at the throttle butterfly & see if it's open/closed.

It did have a messed up throttle cable, thanks guys for your help. I just got a new one in the mail, and I need to know the best way to replace the old one. Any ideas?

I tied it to the old one and pulled it through. Thanks to all who responded.
