08 XB12R Installed a LC1 wideband to the bike today and went out for a ride and a datalog. On my first trip out I noticed a lot of noise in the temp sensor signal but didn't think much of it. Second ride today the bike was running very well, then it began to feel like it was going badly lean - surging. Check engine light flashed and shortly after the bike went into cylinder skip. I pulled over and checked the codes - Temp sensor short to ground/overheat and fan short to ground. I tested the fan with Ecmspy's internal test function - NTF. So I limped home, hanging idle, surging and occasionally running fine. Looking at my datalog the temp sensor is unstable and will jump from 53C to 184C in a second or two and flatlined at 51C a few times. The two datalogs from today show the sensor output becoming unstable at 78c. I can't reproduce the problem in my shop, shook the wiring, idled the bike until the fan came on, reved the engine, shook the bike, can't make it act up. When I wired in the wideband I powered it from the Accessory power plug. Is this typical of a temp sensor failure or is there something about the accessory plug and the LC1 that could have sent the temp signal haywire? |

Problem solved- temp sensor reading funky cleared up after removing and re-installing the sensor and cleaning the battery grounds. The LC1 doesn't seem to like life behind the back cylinder and would give false values when the engine got hot. Stock NB sensor back in and all is well |

I also have a wideband sensor from Innovate (MTX-L insetad of LC1) but never got that kind of behavior. Anyway I am moving it to the front cylinder and installing NB rear. |

I’ve had an LC-1 & WB on both my 07 Buell’s for several years. The controllers were wired behind the shock. Never had a problem with overheating until I took one over the mountains on a really hot, (around 100 degree) day then had some odd funky issues until later in the day when things cooled down. Awhile back I had wired the exhaust valve open and removed the actuator. I put the LC-1 controller where the actuator use to be. With a steady stream of air flowing over it the controller is running cooler and I haven’t had any issues since even on hot days. |
