Cable and a copy of ECMSpy - Looking at my timing maps on the 08 XB12, below 2k rpms the timing map has values of 3-6 degrees, then at 2krpm it jumps to 15-17 degrees. Does anybody know why the low RPM has such low timing? All I can figure is that this is either anti-wheelie or knock resistance. In 13 years of tuning cars I have never seen timing numbers like this. "I don't know" is an acceptable answer. I am inclined to turn up the timing a few degrees, but want to check if anybody has experience here. |

You don't ever really use anything below 2000 so the motor should only see that when idling. The only reason I can think of, and which is probably wrong, is that the piston speed is so low that they didn't need more advance to let the flame front spread through the entire chamber. You might be able to jack it up to 10 degrees and be safe, but it might idle slightly hotter since the flame is burning for slightly longer. |

It's for "ping" and if I were you, I'd leave it be. Been there done that. If you're having an issue other than not seeing it before, it'll be fine. If you are having issues, address them rather than trying to "correct" the timing. If it's pinging, you more than likely have an intake leak, or exhaust leak. Been there, done that. |

Thanks Guys, its not so much a problem as it is an observation. The timing being that low kills the off idle throttle response and increases difficulty when starting from a stop. Has this timing map been on all Thunderstorm engines or was it a model year thing? |
