I've been an avid dirt bike rider from the age of 6, I bought my first street bike this year at the age of 19. Everyone recommended a 250 to start on, so I played along and got a 2001 Ninja 250, but after about a week I was ready for a bigger bike. I love the look of the XB12s' and have always been a fan of low end power, my favorite dirt bike is my Dad's KDX200, a 2-stroke enduro bike. Of course I'm going to ride one first but I'm probably not going to have the chance to ride all of the variants, so my question is this: What are the pros and cons of the variants of the 2009 XB12s? Specifically the XB12ss and the XB12scg, but any info on the others is appreciated. |

The SCG is for short legged people. It has less suspension travel, and is "lowered" by and inch or so from the suspension and a thinner seat. On bumpy roads, the SCG suspension will bottom out easier due to the lack of travel. If you are of average height, the "S" is a better fit and has more suspension travel. I am short, and ride an "S" model with the "low" seat from the SCG. There is an "SS" that is longer, giving more room for tall people. No matter what model you get. You will fall in love with the handling. |

Froggy will just tell you to buy an 1125. for the XB12s, the STT, X, and XT models have more of a dirt-type styling. the STT has the long frame of the SS with some other minor differences. the X and XT have the longer frame also, but also have longer forks for more total ground clearance. I have a 32 inch inseam, am on the balls of my feet when stopped on the XT. |

Well I'm 5'8", but I guess the differences are very minor, so I'll just have to see what I can find for sale. |

Don't rule out an XB9SX (City Cross) either. The 12 definitely has more bottom end grunt but the 9 shakes less and will spin a little faster. Some people prefer the 9 to the 12. I'd recommend you try both if you can. |

The 9 is also much more reliable, my 9sx was as reliable as an anvil. |

At 30K+ my "12" has never needed anything beyond regular maintenance and tires to keep it running. And a "12" does not vibrate a lot. It throbs with excitement in anticipation of curves N cornerz. |
