Turn ignition to on, dash lights up, turn signals, and tail light function. But no headlight, no fuel injectors running, and nothing when I press start button? Any ideas? It's an 04xb 12s |

Check fuses and relays under the seat. Pull each relay and re-seat, maybe give a gentle tap to loosen the moving parts. All 4 relays are identical; you can try moving them around to see if symptoms change and tell if you have a bad relay. Relays are like ~$5 each from Harley dealers are are common to some Ford cars, so you can find one at your local auto parts store if you can find a decent counter guy. |

So i jostled some wires around and played with the relays.. i got ignition back so now it cranks but still no fuel pump... Any additional thoughts.. The connection on one of the relays is pretty loose it basically falls out.. could i need a new box all together? So frustrating, I rode all this time parked it and all the sudden its dead. no previous warning signs. |

That problem happened to me and it was the key switch ignition relay. No lights & no fuel pump. The other relays have different symptoms. |

Look and see if you have melted plastic at that relay connection. If the plastic isn't melted you may still be able to order the connectors and crimp them on the wires and snap them back up into the relay block. After that I was never able to find the relay block to order it, or even the connectors from anywhere except Harley. Fuse block connectors can be ordered from one place, you'd need to search for my Hella headlight threads to get those part numbers and where to order. |

Check your grounds. Sometimes adding an extra ground wire from the battery to the frame will help. |

If that relay connection is that loose odds are that's your problem. I think the only way to buy the relay block is with the complete wiring harness. That costs somewhere around $300 new. You might find a cheap one on ebay that you could salvage parts out of, like the relay block. I suggest you work on figuring out how to replace that one connector or just try to squeeze it tighter with needle nose pliers to give a good connection. |

Its definitely the connection.. not too easy to get anything in there to tighten the female end of the connectors though.. any thoughts? |

Alright I got it to work thanks guys! Buttttt... Now my neutral light wont go off. It gets ever so slightly brighter when its actually in neutral but it is clearly on at all times. Impossible to tell neutral when outdoors especially... any thoughts? |

I would eliminate the neutral switch itself first - I had one bad on an 06 12X and it had those same symptoms. The switch provides a ground for the light (and the Start relay) so a bare wire grounding out will also light the light. If you disconnect the switch and the light goes off then the switch is looking guilty. BTW - if you do need to replace it they can be removed / refitted without removing the front pulley. In regard to the poor relay connection, you can open up the relay block and remove the sockets from beneath to clean / reform for a better connection. This old post might be of use to you in getting the relay block apart: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/583876.html?1283308981 (Message edited by Rays on August 16, 2012) |
