I just bought Buell 06 xb12x with 5k on it. The guy was charging the battery with a truck (turned off) when I arrived. Bike started up rode it two hours back. I noticed while riding the bike b/n 3900k-4400k the bike ran rough (shook bad). NO other problems though.

2nd RIDE
The check engine light came on, tach's went dead, and finally the bike shut off on me. FROGGY gave me a few things to look at (77pin, battery, stator). Def. not battery or 77 pin.
A mech is going to order new charging system for 250 and put it on for about 150. Is that reasonable.

This is my first Buell. Loved the first ride except for that rpm range.

Any ideas why the bike runs rough and i hear alot about tps reset should I try these things. I was told bike was stock.

Any and all help is welcome and appreciated

First off Welcome to Buell
second, jump your battery and start your bike.
Take a regular volt meter and set it to dc volts with your bike running see if it is charging should read 12.9 to 14v by putting black lead to neg and red lead to pos.
If it is change your battery
If it is not and at 12 v or under go to the 77 pin and see if it is melted or messed up. If not then let the mechanic put a new charging system in it.
The vibration could be an isolator but they do vibrate a bit, well more than a bit so I would concentrate on getting your charging system up and running.

Don't buy anything until you find the actual problem.
You can spend huge money on parts+labor just to find it was a loose ground or a lame battery.

thanks.
i'm not sure about 77 pin but did take off front pulley cover and did not see or smell any burnt wiring.
the mech said he would test the stator, if that is good then he'll check the voltage regulator. an order what is necessary.

Vibration can be a bad isolator (front motor mount ) like Brumbear said, or a loose primary chain. It should vibrate like a jackhammer at idle, but smooth out while cruising.
