I've had an XB9 2003 since 2005 or so. This winter I picked up a 1125CR 2009. Today, I drove the XB9 on my commute for the first time this year. I can tell you there is no clear winner. Sure the 1125 is a rocket w/ 6 speeds and a slicker shift but all the fun of a bike is more accessible on the XB9. The 1125 is not an XB w/ 3k more rpm range and 50 more HP if it had hit that mark it would be perfection. It does not have the low end torque. If pressed to drive one cross country it would be the XB9. | ||

With the correct fueling, low end torque is about the same on the 1125 as the XB. At 3000RPM, both the XB9 and 1125 put out about 50 ft lbs of torque, then once spooled up it is no contest with the 1125 having a significant power advantage. I do agree that the XB9 and 12 feel stronger with stock vs stock fueling, the EPA really killed the 1125 below 4k. Both models greatly benefit from a Race ECM. I've ridden multiple XBs and 1125s across country, the winner in my opinion is the 1125R, the comfortable ergonomics, and the wind protection from the large fairing make a 700 mile feel like nothing. Just my opinion based on first hand experience over the last 6 years and nearly 150k miles combined. | ||

My Buell stayed parked for about 2 years. I had it relegated to the corner, and kept saying one of these days, I am going to get that thing running again. Nothing wrong with it, except the battery went flat, and it was a pain to try and juggle the two bikes in the limited space. So, a couple months ago, I have an issue which paralyzes my right arm. It stays screwed up for about a month. I ended up having to sell my jeep, for what I owed, and then dragged the Buell out with the intention of selling it too, because I haven't worked in a while, and now don't have a cage. When I started out getting it back up and running, I was like, ok, I am finally going to have some room in my garage area, etc. Thing is, it turned into a labor of love. Here it is, about 2 weeks later, and I have been riding it daily, and now, I am depressed about having to sell it. Last month I was ready to let it go for what I owed on it. Now, I don't really want to sell it at all. The bike has a personality all it's own. It's a really fun bike to ride. I don't really think that anything else out there compares to it, and the worst of it all is, they don't make them anymore. When it's gone, it's really gone. It makes me sad, very sad. The thing of it is, on the 12, you have a lot of lower end grunt, and can just cruise it without getting on it too much. It's it's own bike. Nothing else compares to it. Oh well. Maybe someday someone will do something similar. But I don't think there'll ever be another bike quite like it. And that's a bummer. | ||

i have a 9, a 12, and a CR and whenever i ride one when i havent ridden it for a spell, it always feels like the best bike ever. i always get reminded of the facets that i love about the bike and the strenghts it holds over the other bikes. but when i think of them subjectively, i prefer the 1125 over the 9 by a small margin. and for long tours, the 1125 wins hands down. | ||

I only miss one thing about my old XB9R and that's the front fairing. It blocked the wind and kept the front end more stable as compared to my 1125CR. Other than that I love the power, sound and feel of the 1125CR. I am also glad I got the CR instead of the R. Just have to get rid of those antlers of mirrors. | ||

Are the charging systems as bad as people make them out to be? If so, is there a proper solution? I read this and was very impressed: http://hildstrom.com/projects/buellstator/index.ht ml But say you didn't want to make a science project out of your bike, would a "normal" person be able to like with a 1125 on a day to day basis? | ||

I don't think the problem is as bad as it's made out to be, but there is a major design flaw in the charging system. The proper solution is to get your stator rewound with higher temp wire and install the EBR rotor. I ride my 1125 everyday I am home in traffic in 90+ degree heat and have 5500 miles with no issues. | ||

I do have the stock fuel map so maybe that would be the fix. I am worried about a race ECM w/ a stock exhaust. I have not calculated the torque v. ratios of the two bikes that could be a significant factor. As for the electric, I've been stranded on my 1125cr w/ a dead battery. I have to watch the volts and temp. Sitting in a traffic jam at 100 deg watching the coolant temp hit 223 and the volts drop to 12 will kill the fun of it all. Another factor 45 MPG for the XB9 and 35 MPG for the 1125CR. Knowing that if the volts go to low and I have to stop for gas while hot, it might not start. My point this isn't like the blast v. XB - no contest. In the XB v. 1125 - I'm trying to find a reason to justify both. Maybe an XT is the answer, it would pair well w/ the 1125. | ||

My last post was a joke. There isn't much difference in torque between the XB12 and 1125. The 1125 stock torque is in the low 70's and the XB12 is upper 60's to 70. I've never seen my CR get that hot. Mid day, riding two up, bumper to bumper traffic during Scrapin the Coast in Biloxi, MS and it stayed around 202°. For the 1125 the MPG is arguable and varies hugely on riding style. | ||

The 2 machines are a good problem to have... I loved my XB until I bought the CR then after awhile I missed my XB until I rode one the other day and realized how similar they are but the XB doesn't have the Xrta pull, but it turns so much more effortless. Then I rode a tuber and I WANT ONE!!!!!! but I could never make a clear choice it's a good problem to have  | ||
