oil, that is... black gold, texas tea, or grape kool-aid since I'm running RP. I know my rear rocker box gasket is leaking but after the last two short rides Ive been on, Ive noticed a small amount of oil on the pipe - looking from the right side of the bike its about midway in relation to the chin fairing. Only way an RB leak would make it that far would be if it was either leaking profusely (which I dont think it is) or if perhaps it made its way onto a vent hose or electrical wire. Ive looked it over pretty good but cant seem to find the source short of taking a bunch of shit off the bike. Anybody else experienced this??? bike is an 07 12R with 16K miles. |

Leak dye and a UV light. You can get the dye from any auto parts store it's like $5 a bottle. You can get the UV light from walmart or borrow from a hippie/pothead. Put some in your oil, take the bike the block or two and then check in dark area with the UV light. It'll glow green wherever oil is leaking from! (Message edited by b00stzx3 on June 28, 2012) |

leak dye - no sh!t?? Never heard of it. Guess I'm not the gearhead I thought I was. I'm hoping it is just the starter grommet and not my RB gasket really letting go. Thanks for the advice guys. |

Check that you are not losing gearbox oil through the seal on the end of the output shaft. That can happen and dribble oil onto your chin spoiler/exhaust. Also check the oil line connections from the oil pump. I had one break once that appeared to have been overtightened on assembly. Unfortunately it brok at one of the fastest UK race tracks and wrecked an engine so is worth checking ........ First give the bike a thorough wash & clean to get rid of any residual oil etc, then ride it/run it for a short while to see if you can isolate the leak. It is much easier to see when clean |
