You may find that the 2003 Mustang pump does not fit (note the edit in my post above), I bet you need the 85-86 Mustang v6 pump that I listed above that I used in my pump assembly. This is the filter I put in and other than being a couple millimeters shorter it fits fine. The E clip with stock filter was in the third groove from the top, replacement filter is fourth groove. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/AZ-Filters- Fuel-Filter/_/N-5yc1s?itemIdentifier=830807 |

If you are still in the location your profile indicates, Autozone says they have one in stock, then you can get the post pump filter which they also show as stock. They do not have a strainer that fits properly and American Sport Bike is currently out of stock but expects them to arrive this week. Your local Advance Autoparts also had the pump in stock. You can try folding this strainer and maybe it will work, maybe it will not: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Airtex-Mast er-Fuel-Pump-Strainer/1986-Ford-Mustang/_/N-ij5o6Z 8vd30?itemIdentifier=186791_0_0_ |

I'll see when it arrives. Supposed to come in tomorrow. I dont live in GA anymore. I live in Canada. The 1985 pump has a metal outlet and is known to fail. As long as the body ends up being of the same size I'll take my chances with the 2003 pump. I am going to ditch the brittle plastic fuel line anyway and use a rubber fuel line with clamps. The strainer I havent though about. I hope it comes with the pump... The one on my pump is brand new because I had replaced it back when I swapped the pump to the new frame in 2008. well see... I'm not sure what difference a metal outlet makes, especially when you are probably going to use a different manufacturer pump like the Airtex. I also don't think it matters that a pump built in 85 had a lot of problems since they still sell that same design I would expect them to have fixed any real issues. I expect if the Walbro 521 was junk all the racing suppliers would not stock it. Anyway I went with the Airtex to try and provide one more possibly replacement for the next guy or the guy broken down on a trip that needs the info, hopefully I didn't waste my money and it works fine. If you are very careful you might be able to remove the "new" strainer, but I don't think it fits the pump you bought. (Message edited by Greg_E on June 20, 2012) |

Can you smell gas from the exhaust? Cranking it over til the battery dies should have fed enough gas in there to smell. Still not squirting? |

Nope no smell, the fuel doesnt make it to the combustion chamber. I pulled the fuel line and I defently have fuel pressure. Then I pulled the injectors, the fuel that was sitting inside the metal fuel rail was dark pee yellow in color. Removed the seals from the injectors and they are now bathing in a jar of injector/carb cleaner. Will let them sit for a few days then I'll reinstall them. They arent like car injectors, the holes are microscopic and I think this is what makes them easy to clog after sitting too long. I was expecting to see the gunk but they "appear" clean at the tips. Funny thing is that the front injector is red in color and the rear injector is white.... Hopefuly this takes care of it. Before reinstalling them I am going to test them outside the motor to see how they spray. |

I read somewhere that you can actually take them apart and rebuild them. Perhaps that was just the tuber's injectors though. |

Notice that the injectors have an angled outlet, these spray down the intake. Do not get them backwards, that's why they are color coded. You can send you injectors out to be rebuild, these guys did a decent job on my injectors: http://www.fuelinjectorconnection.com/shop/viewcat egory.php?groupid=78 |

Rear injector, nice spray. Front injector... noting, nada. I tested them hooking them up to 12v... No selenoidy noise from the "dead" injector... |
