Hey guys. Hopefully you might know what's to be done with this problem since I'm out of options... anyways, my XB9R tossed out a code53 ECM Rom failure. After reading multiple threads here, I came to a conclusion that my ECM must've gone haywire since it was almost impossible to ride the bike... every time I'd let the clutch all the way out, the engine would misfire and stall. So I got another ECU, new spark plug wires, spark plugs, did a TPS reset and the bike still does the same thing. Idles around 1070rpm, and simply works perfect in neutral though... any advice will be much appreciated |

Sounds like a bad ECM, no practical way to fix that besides replacing it. You could check the wiring harness going to it for shorts or grounds, check the connectors to the ECM, and check your grounds to make sure they are clean and solid. Make sure the voltage regulator is doing it's job as well. |

Try swapping the battery if you've got another one around. If the battery is old and down on amps it causes hell with the digital fuel injection. |

well, i am absolutely certain my ECM is good. I tried two now and both provide me with the exact same problem. Wiring harness seems fine and judging from the data i get from ECMSpy, voltages seem fine too. Battery was recently replaced and i made sure to check the charge on the new one. I was beginning to suspect the sidestand switch, but i checked it and it's fine. i tried to mess a bit with the clutch cable, and it seems that by tightening it up a bit, now i can kill my bike as soon as i let the clutch lever out all the way (if the bike is in gear). clutch lever travel distance does seem to be a bit too short, but can a bad clutch adjustment really cause such problems? thanks a bunch for all the help so far ;] |

Could be two problems, unless the new ECM is throwing codes as well. Bad ECM, fixed/replaced, okay now. Clutch out of adjustment, not fixed, still bad. |

Poppinsexz was right after all. The darn switch seemed to work fine, everything read properly on a voltmeter.. but just for good measure, i figured i'd get rid of that sensor and everything works perfect now. So there, if you get a code 53 error in your ECM, it may be due to the darn little switch that really doesn't have much purpose... dealer told me they can adjust both the primary and clutch for $50 so I'll definitely go for that, Iamarchangel. Huge thanks to everyone for your help =] (Message edited by eretromicin on June 11, 2012) |

Glad you got it fixed. I just guessed using the fact that while in N all was well but when you put it in gear is when it acted up. |
