I have 2009 xb12r and I am trying to figure out what is wrong with the charging system. I have measure voltage at battery while running only 12v and reving only 12v. So then I pulled the the stator plug and measured a resistance of 0.3 ohms between the pins. Measured to ground there was no continuity. So then I measured AC volts arcoss the stator while running and measured 22vac at idle and went up with higher rpms. Next I checked the voltage regulator housing to ground and measured o.1 ohms. I then measured DC voltage across the 2 leads coming from the voltage regulator and it was reading 35vdc. Is the VR bad or am i doing something wrong? Also found this problem the other day while riding the check engine light came on. Stopped for gas and didnt have enough juice to start back up. |

77 pin can be a problem with the XB's check that out before you go for a regulator |

It could be the 77 connector or a bad regulator. Take a real good look at the condition of the pins on the 77 connector (that's the one coming from the alternator). Mine was real hard to see, but it was burnt inside the plug. They have a kit to replace it with an upgraded plug. I thought that they started putting those by '09 though. I've always thought that the regulator was what gets replaced when all other things that can be tested have tested OK. It sounds like it's generating voltage OK, so it pretty much has to be the 77 connector or the regulator, doesn't it? Yeah, the link Brumbear just posted. (Message edited by SIFO on June 01, 2012) |

Watched your Newbie video Mike! Thanks and helped a lot! Actually burned my first map with mild changes. Rode around and noticed smooth running from idle up and 2K to 3Krpm is just a dreamy smooth compared to stock. Under light throttle it gets a little buzzy at 4K. Looking forward to spending more time with it and then learning the last tuning aspect without the O2 sensor. Thanks for all you have done and your help. Now I am waiting patiently for the lite file for my bike/BUEIB. (Message edited by idaho_uly on June 02, 2012) |
