First I want to apologize if this is posted in the wrong area, I didn't see an appropriate heading under the "Knowledge Vault" section. I noticed a "spot" (about 12" in diameter) on the ground one day that seemed to line up with the oil drain plug, so I looked underneath & just saw some regular gunk, nothing major, so I cleaned it all up and have been good for about two weeks now. Parked the bike about 3 days ago & today saw another "spot" about 4" in diameter under the same area. Looked at the bike & saw nothing that was leaking (are my neighbors messing with me??) So I was feeling around & came across a vent hose behind the left heel guard. I believe that is the vent from the tank?? I did fill the tank before I parked it. Why, just sitting there, would it dump some "gas"????? If that is what it is. Can anyone help shed some light into this? |

First you need to confirm what you are actually leaking, use some cardboard or a papertowl under where you suspect it will leak, that way you can figure out for sure if it is gas or oil. If it is gas, what happens is the frame heats up, pressure builds inside the frame, and some gas escapes as vapor out the vent hose. This gas will cool back down inside the hose, and then condenses back into a liquid, and it will drip. If it is oil, you need to figure out where exactly it is coming from, which isn't always easy. It could be the o-ring on the drain plug leaking. |
