I stripped the treads on my oil cooler when i hooked the lines back up. I really can't tell if they are removable fittings or not and didn't want to screw that up as well. If so that should be an easy fix. If not anyone have a way to fix em and save the cooler? or is it scrap and just find a new one? I really wanted to get a ride this weekend. Guess i should have been a lil more careful. | ||

New cooler is about $150, the fittings are not replaceable. I'd find a 5/8x18 die and try to clean up the threads first.  | ||

Use a thread chasing tool. A die will re-cut the threads removing more material. A chasing tool will just bend the thread back into shape without removing material. You might find a rental place that will rent the tool. That would make it a very cheap fix. Of course if the threads were stripped from over torquing instead of just cross threaded, then I don't think the chaser or die will save the cooler. | ||

Unfortunately i cleaned em right off. Looks like im buying a new one. | ||

A radiator shop should be able to fix it. It might be cheaper to buy new though. It's very likely just soldered in place. | ||

I checked with a local shop that said it could cut old end off and replace with new one. But my luck it would cost close to a new one and still end up with shavings in the cooler and cook the whole motor. I'll just buy a new one. thanks for the responses. Anyone have one they want to sell? | ||

A good shop will know how to not leave you with metal shavings. They will also strip it clean in an acid bath inside and out, do the repairs, pressure test it, repaint it, and probably several things I don't know about as part of the process. If a new one wasn't available, this would be an option. With a new one available for about $150 I would go that route. | ||

Just contacted Al at American Sportbike to see if he had ant oil coolers or knew where to get one. He hadn't been able to update website yet but did have em in stock. He is shipping one out today. Thanks Al and Sifo for the help. | ||

Might have been worth going with the wider version for extra cooling as long as you had to replace it. | ||
