Hello new guy here with a couple questions. I have a 2003 xb9r, before I put my bike away for the winter the fan always turned on when I shut the bike off. Since I've got my bike out this season the fan only worked once. I've test the fan through ecmspy and works fine. Over the winter I flashed the race fuel maps and put on new exhaust. The one time the fan worked was when I tested the fan in ecmspy a couple times then I flashed the whole race eeprom to my ecmspy thinking I did something wrong when I only added the fuel maps, I went for a quick ride came back and fan ran for a minute and since then nothing. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks. |

With more fuel the bike will run cooler so perhaps it just wasn't as hot? |

That is what a couple other people told me too, it just worries me. I was out the other day and it was about 80 degrees F out and I went for a couple hour ride around town and even with the traffic and stop and go and the occasional WOT on the back roads it still didn't come on when I turned the bike off. I can say that the bike does seem alot cooler after a long ride than it did before. |

What Brumbear said. Over the winter I flashed the race fuel maps and put on new exhaust. What race map did you use? That would have a bearing on when the fan comes on. Doesn't EMCspy allow you to decide at what temp the fan comes on? If it tests well in ECMspy, you should be good to go I'd think. |

Is it coming on while you're riding? If it does, you're good. |

If I am reading your post right, you tested the fan before the flash but not after? Give the fan a test again, see if it still works. Also check the engine temperature readings (datalog while riding if you must), if the temp sensor thinks the bike is too cold the fan won't run. |

I don't hear the fan turn on while I'm riding, at least on high speed I don't. Last year there was a few times the fan kicked on high while riding and I definitely heard it but I'm not sure if its running on low speed. I did order a multimeter online and I'm going to test the head temp sensor soon. I flashed the whole race eeprom that matched my bike and only after that immediate ride for about 5 minutes I came home and the fan ran for about 30 seconds. |

I tested the fan multiple times before the flash and after. I will run a quick datalog tomorrow. Where in megalog can I see the temperature? I have all the software on my laptop but haven't data logged yet. |

See what your operating limits (settings) are for your fan in the latest upload. If you don't know what the cylinder head temperatures are (data reading or logging) - you're forced into a guessing game. |

What tab are the fan settings on in ecmspy? I don't have my computer in front of me right now I'm at work. I just don't remember seeing anything about the fan or temp in ecmspy. Sorry for being such a noob. Thanks in advance. |

CLT is the engine temp in Megalog viewer. Fan settings require bit twiddling in the raw EEPROM - tread lightly. |
