I got a HJC Sy-Max 2 last year and enjoy the flip-up style for talking, taking drinks, cooling off at red lights, etc. Problem is my "Leno-like" chin rests up against the chin bar. Does anyone know if there's this style of brain bucket that has more chin space? | ||

I have about 1.5" gap between my chin and the chin bar of my Fulmer modular helmet. The Fulmer helmets tend to weigh a little more than most modular helmets.  | ||

I would say Schuberth but I have a feeling you will hit the chin bar on the newer style. if you can find a new old stock Concept that might be worth trying since they should be cheap, maybe try a Concept 2 which should also be somewhat cheap. The big problem is trying them to see what fits when you have little to no selection locally. Might be worth a call to Revzilla and see if they can offer suggestions based on your prominent chin. | ||

I have the chinbar contact problem also. As mentioned, the Fulmer Modus has quite a bit of room & is pretty heavy. I have a Shark now, it is a nice helmet. It is kinda heavy but I don't think it's as heavy as the Fulmer. The new Shoei is supposed to have more chin room than the old one but I haven't seen one yet. Good luck! Murf2 | ||

Nolan. i had 2 and loved them. but the trouble with modulars is that they are almost only availabe in a 'round' head shape profile. i had to go full face to get the proper 'long oval' profile. no regrets, tho | ||

I wanted a Nolan when I ordered the Fulmer I have shown above, but the sales guy at the bike shop couldn't find the Nolan I wanted. Nolan will most likely be my next modular helmet. | ||

Not a fan as saw 2 different ones fail on calls I went on, resulting in some bad chin injuries. Sorry I cannot remember the brands, but it sure put me off the whole concept. | ||

I am very happy with my Zeus 3000A which is the only DOT approved modular. The got a good review on WebBike World. They look like sport bike helmets rather than your dad's touring job, and they have a built in sun shade. In addition, they have a longer oval than most, and are not at all expensive at $220 including shipping. My Scorpion EXO-900 is DOT too. The front can even detach to become a 3/4 helmet if you desire. | ||

The Schuberth C3, C2, and Concept are all DOT, the C3 is rated for the European 2005 standard which is now becoming one of the ratings need for track use. I'm certain the Shoei is DOT, and so is the Nolan and the Arai. What I was told from Revzilla is that all of the road helmets are DOT or they won't sell them, not sure if it is strictly true. My brother has the C3, and it definitely has a DOT sticker on the back. | ||

With many places now allowing the EU 2005 (ECE 2005) on the track I'm not sure SNELL matters so much. There is also the controversy over whether SNELL helmets are too hard for the road since the limits they test to are more severe, but I'm not sure what to believe on the SNELL issue. | ||

I'm not sure SNELL matters so much. To my knowledge SNELL is the only one of the three mentioned that performs impact tests on the chin bar. Considering that the chin bar is probably going to be the weakest link in a modular helmet, the SNELL rating may be the only one that matters (unless you live in Europe and have access to the excellent SHARP helmet test reports.) Plus, if the rating is SNELL 2010 (instead of 2005), then the "too hard for the road" controversy no longer applies as far as I know. And to the OP, I lent my Nolan to a Lenoesque friend. He like it enough that he bought one shortly after. | ||

Shark Evoline!  Absolutley love the versatility of mine + it is the ONLY modular helmet that you can wear with it "converted" in North Carolina, flip ups are illegal to wear in the open posiyion while in motion here. | ||

Hey Froggy just relaying what the room full of motorcycle officers told us during the recent "Ride Safe" class last month. I actually had to ask the lead officer after class and he confirmed. BUT he did say that it is not something they would pull you for unless suspicion of something else was involved. | ||

it may be an areo-dymanics thing, but i have no specifics about the NC helmet law. most chin bars stick up and out above your fore-head, and this can give the helmet some leverage on your neck when you check your blindspot at highway speeds. think of the intent of or reasonf for the law rather than the letter of the law. | ||

I've just got the newest kid on the block, HJC R-PHA MAX, it's only 50g heavier than the Shoei Raid II it replaced, is no noisier, has integral sun visor, & best of all, I can put it on without taking my glasses off. Not cheap but I'm well pleased. | ||
