I know the breather mod/delete has been covered many times on this forum , but has there ever been any solid proof of it helping performance ? Before and after ? I have tried many different locations for my breather hose and catch cans , and have never been fully satisfied with the results - a misting , or dripping of oil around the area making a mess . I am about to put it back in the air box . Does it really help in street performance ? P.S. I have never tried the $$$ ABS or Drummer Catch Cans . To rich for my blood . |

I think it's mostly "Not puking crap into the airbox." Mine just vents under the primary. It spews a splut of crud in the cold. Rather on the ground than in my airbox... |

I like the way this one looks: https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.a sp?RecID=4703 Ended up strapping it to the W brace in the front kind of horizontal. Stuck a sintered breather (Summit Racing differential breather) in the far end and the drain in the side opening. Seems to work OK for the few miles I've been able to put through it. If I ever finish the top end rebuild there might be less stuff coming out. Mostly I just get water but once in a while going up a hill I'll get a little oil mist coming out the breather. |

That's kind of where I have mine right now , but its puking out and blowing onto the underside of my swing arm and rear tire , so now I'm cleaning that ..... |

I think this is the breather http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CEE-3406/ |

Yeah , I saw that one . I wonder if you put a long enough vent hose on it , maybe run it up into the tail , if it would really collect into the can , and not drip or mist out . Where do you have yours mounted Greg_e ? |

Strapped to the side of the W bracket just in back of the oil cooler and it is horizontal. Unless you have a real leaker it should be fine for a couple tankfuls between each empty. Even with the blow-by that my machine had I wasn't getting oil in the can most of the time, guess the pcv valves were working properly to keep the liquid inside. Not sure I have any pictures and the bike is in pieces so not much to see right now. |

I've got my tube running down beside the oil cooler and into the chin fairing. There's screw valve on the end of the rubber tube. I just drain it periodically. Not a big deal to me and no mess everywhere. |

Just checked and no pictures of how I have it mounted. With luck maybe by the end of the week, but luck has not been on my side so I doubt it will be back together by then. |

It's really just about engine cleanliness. I'd rather not be running that crap through my engine. For the record... Get the Drummer setup. |

I know the breather mod/delete has been covered many times on this forum , but has there ever been any solid proof of it helping performance ? Before and after ? I ran my race bike on the dyno back in 2006 and tried running both stock and modified breathers (into a catch can under the seat). Power was EXACTLY the same for both setups, as was torque and exhaust emissions. On earlier tube frame models the air filter/airbox was tiny in comparison, so there may have been performance benfits moving the breathers on these models. On the Xb the airbox is much bigger and breathers more efficient, so there is no performance benefit. The only thing you may benefit from is a little less oil in your airbox. |

I did a breather rerout last week. I don't know if it actually boosted hps or not. But it did smooth out my idle and increased throttle response. Not bad for 20 bucks. Besides its a chance to do something thats all your own |

Hey, trojan. I have an 06 xb12ss and I am thinking about letting a little more air in through the intake. What is do you think. Swiss cheese stock air box or an open air box. Is there any torque loss? How much louder is it? |

I got my Pegasus Racing catch can in the mail today and it looks pretty nice . It has a few little nicks in it that will polish out , but it is really well made for the cheap price . It is also very compact . You just have to get bigger hose fittings for it . I am going to try and mount it under the seat ( so its not visible ) and run a long vent hose from it up into the tail . Hopefully , gravity will keep the oil and spooge in the catch can and out of the vent hose .

I did not need larger fittings on my 03 9R but I might have used a T that had larger fittings to go to the PCV valves, and then small line down to the can. I don't really remember exactly what I did. |

That brass canister reminds me of the one I made out of a brass powder flask. I just drilled some extra holes and tapped them. The project was about $25.

Here is what I did. I used the T for the step between 3/8 and 1/4 hoses. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Greg_E/XB9R /catchcan1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Greg_E/XB9R /catchcan2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Greg_E/XB9R /catchcan3.jpg It won't hold as much as other cans, but if you are filling it that fast then there is probably something else wrong and you better correct it. |

Mine is similar to what Marko138 described. I have the filter sitting behind the oil cooler facing the back of the bike beside the engine with a tube running down into the chin fairing with a valve on the bottom (no can). I drained mostly water the first time but very little since then. Idle and low rpm is much smoother than before. |

I store my bike outside and I empty water condensation out of my CatchCan nearly every other day. That crap (alongside blowby sludge) would otherwise be injected back into my intake. No bueno. |
