Some friends of mine have a house out at Ocean Shores, WA. and invited myself a few friends over for the weekend as it was the area's H.O.G. Sun n Surf weekend. I couldn't leave early from work on Friday so I decided to go Sat. @ 6am. It's about 125 miles. They also asked if I wouldn't mine their youngest kid riding along with me. He had just bought an '03 XB9R a few days before. (against my protests!) I advised him to get a used bike to start out on. Anyway... he was behind me the whole way and generally doing good. Five miles from the ocean he decides to get in front of me a few car lengths. Now I see we were in that crappy "rubberband" type traffic. He didn't. He's looking at the ground or something when the Suburban slows almost to a stop in front of him. I see him look up and jam the brakes. Front end cranks left, bike drops, he's doing the helmet surfing thing on the asphalt. At least he didn't hit the guy in front so that was alright. He gets the bike up and off the road. He's ok. He just doesn't want me to call his parents. He wants to tell them. I checked the bike for him. Here is what happened: Left handlebar bent. Grip ground off. No linkage left, snapped off. Primary cover dented in and scrapped. Primary cover wasted. Front rim scrapped. Rear swingarm has 1/2 inch rash. ZERO body or frame damage! Bike starts up and I tell him to just ride it to the house and super clutch it. Good torque! (I think it was stuck in 4th gear) Now I feel like sh*t for letting this happen, even though it was his fault for being a dumb a##, which he admits. Now the bike will sit until they can go pick it up with the truck next weekend. Sooo... anyone have any extra parts? |
