I proudly put on some new Dunlop Q2 tires, and promptly low sided after about 20 miles. Took me by surprise because I was being careful and not really laying into the corners.. Of course some light damage, but now I'm wondering when I can get back to that fun cornering I'm so used to ? Any suggestions ? |

Dunlop says they don't use mold release on their tires, but the last set of Q2 I installed definately were "slick". I always use a Brillo pad to scrub and wash the entire tire surface before riding the first time on new tires. (rinse well). Tires, generally speaking need to go thru a couple of heat cycles to get to their optimum traction. My own rule is 200 miles of break in. Riding around in a grass or dirt field is another way to help scrub the surface. Once broken in, with proper air pressure, you can take them all the way to the edge with confidence. They stick very well. Just keep in mind, no matter what tire you run temperature and road conditions greatly affect traction. I don't push mine at all in the cold. Lastly, remember it takes a few miles to get the tire up to temperature. You will feel the difference in steering between cold and warm. |

Just curious, did you check the pressures? 20 miles should be more than enough if you're not abrupt on the controls. (Message edited by Tony216 on January 05, 2012) |

Huh, that is strange. I broke in my set of Q2s during a track day. Just took it extra easy during the first session. After that I let it rip. |
