There I said it. I knew it. I tried it anyway.

I did my own 10k service, but after I changed the spark plugs, I ended up with a hesitation and a pop in the low range. I broke the rubber cover on the front plug wire and noticed the stumbling afterwards. I've replaced it with a new one, but the condition still exists.

I still need the 10k tps reset. Could this fix the problem? Or could it be something else entirely? I'm taking it to the shop this afternoon, but I'd like to go in armed with some ideas.

BTW, the engine seems to run fine once past the low revs.

Did you run it at about 3200 for a few miles? Maybe the ECM just hasn't learned that the combustion chamber is all of a sudden acting more efficient?

Not exactly ...

I took it to the track. It ran fine over 2500rpm, and I did ~100 miles. I took the first 3 or 4 laps slowly to give the chip a chance to sort itself out, but it never got any better. It didn't get any worse either.

It was just a little disconcerting to feel the bike buck when she was heeled over in the carousel. Otherwise, she was a total champ all day. Damn track days are too much fun!

I removed the snorkel too. Could that have an impact?

Nah the snorkel shouldn't do sh#t as it only made mine sound like a V8 when I get on the power. I'd bet the plug needs gapping again.

mine did the same thing once my plugwires started to go
i replaced em with some diffrent wires n it made it calm down a little but still running the old plugs so it still does it a little
im waiting on some buell wires n got ngk plugs to put in as soon as they get here
im hoping the new plugs and wires makes itgo away
otherwise it does kinda seem like a tps issue

Not likely a TPS issue, but certainly possible. I would run it at about 3200 nice and even for a while. The ECM needs to be in it's learning mode (closed loop??? I always get them confused) to readjust the A/F mix. I can't imagine that it would actually run worse, but it just seems to me to be more plausible than needing a TPS reset just from swapping plugs. It might be though.

If the stumbling were related to the spark plug gap, wouldn't it stumble everywhere in the rev range?

Also, while riding it to the shop yesterday, i determined that the stuble occurs consistantly between 3,500 and 4,000 rpms.

Be careful in your diagnosis. It could be something as simple as bad gas.

I don't recall the exact setting. I used what the service manual called for using a gap gauge. I also compared them to the ones that came out and they seemed the same.

i haven't changed the XB plugs, but last time i did my vette plugs the same thing happened. Turned out that i broke one of the plugs because they were so hard to get too. As soon as I replaced the broken one it ran good as new. I'd check to make sure the plugs are good, and that they are in all the way.

My bike has been backfiring a lot when in high revs...usually when downshifting. I just changed my plugs to see if that would fix it. but it didn't. However, I haven't run it for a few miles yet at 3200. Does it matter what gear you're in when you do this?

it seems to happen in 1st 2nd and 3rd.

I still haven't heard from the shop. I guess this is a real busy time for them to get ready for Sturgis.

Did you ever get this sorted out? I'm bringing mine in on Tuesday for the same issue. I recently installed a Drummer (XB12, K&N, race ECM), and for the first week or two all was fine, then it started to hesitate and stumble at cruising speed, but starts and idles fine. I'd have thought the ECM had to adjust had it been like this since the Drumemr install, but as I said, the first couple weeks were fine. I picked up new NGK plugs (was running Buell Pro plugs) and will swap 'em out this weekend. It's not gas since I've refuelled since the first symptom. I thought maybe bad ECM, but I swapped my stocker back although I haven't had time to ride since then. Again -- this weekend. I did notice though, that the wires coming out of the ECM connector were contacting the rib under the seat pan and a couple of them were chaffed through to copper -- not touching though.
