A friend of mine is looking to get a 2005 XB12R. The Craigslist add says transmission will not shift into 3rd gear. The guy selling it owns a small motorcycle shop and says that it could just be a spring. Does anyone have any info on anything like this, or how hard it would be to fix your self. Here is the Craigslist add. Thanks for the help. Kenney http://littlerock.craigslist.org/mcy/2732750151.ht ml |

I have a 2007 tranny that would drop right in with new bearings (you would have to buy anyways). A complete engine gasket kit (~$150 I think), my tranny ($300) and some time to put it in and you would be better than new! |

IT could be a small detente spring that has come off the selectro mechanism, which will cost you next to nothing. OR...it could be a lunched gearbox that will cost you a LOT of money! Remember that to get at the gearbox you have to split the motor, so it isn't as simple as the old tube frame Buells used to be and not for someone with limited mechanical skills. If you have to pay someone to do the work then you could be better off buying a bike that doesn't have a problem in the first place Most bikes that are sold with 'simple problems' tend to turn out to be badly maintained POS in my experience, so buyer beware |

I live in Little rock...I was looking at that too. Looks like you picked it up since the ad is gone. If so, Congrats and lets go ride! after the repairs... Did you sell the 9r? |

"Most bikes that are sold with 'simple problems' tend to turn out to be badly maintained POS in my experience, so buyer beware" You're not kidding there, sad thing is that they may run fairly well for a long time while you continue to make the damage worse without even knowing you are wrecking it. |

Well he ended up buying it for 1500, he is a good mechanic does alot of his own work. His plan is to try and fix it and resell. Hope it works for him. |
