I own a '09 Buell Lightning XB12Scg. How much different is the '08 Parts & Service Manuals? Although I ordered the '09 manuals they gave me the '08 ones. Since I accepted them and more then 30 days have passed they said I can't return them. New ones for the '09 are $116. Hopefully if someone is interested I maybe able to offset the cost by selling the '08 manuals.
Is there a big enough difference that I should just bite the bullet and order the '09s?
The biggest difference between 09 and 08 on the SCG was the upgrade to ZTL2 front brake, and some cosmetic changes. The manuals will be fine, just the front wheel removal procedure is slightly different due to the larger caliper.
Yea, I'm stuck! I took the 2 caliper bolts off of the fork mounting bracket but I have no idea how to get the caliper off. Going to lunch hopefully someone chimes in soon.
Unmount the brake handle from the handle bar. Line up the caliper to where it is center between the wheel spokes. Now rotate the wheel and caliper down to the bottom and the caliper should be able to be taken out.
I suggest putting some masking tape on the spokes of the rim so the caliper does not scratch or chip the coating on the rim.
The book wants you to disconnect the 2 caliper bolts like you did, line up the spokes on the wheel with the slots on the back of the caliper (I recommend some painter tape to prevent scuffing). Rotate the wheel with caliper counter clockwise and work it away from the fork. Remove the caliper from the rotor, and wiggle the wheel out.
What I've seen done on some 1125s, I can't say for sure if it works on the XB12SCG, but you can leave the caliper in place, remove the front fender, and lift the wheel out and clear of the caliper.
1,000,000 Thanks! I left caliper in place and it worked great! I put electric tape on the spoke, tape got a little nick but rim is perfect. Thanks guys!!!!
Although I tighten the ZTL2 caliper bolts I did not torque them to spec since I have the wrong book. Can someone look up these torque # and post them? Also do these need locktite? I am using Blue on some bolts even though it doesn't call for it. Thanks in advance.
