Just wondering what everybody is doing if and when they have let their bikes sit for a month or two? This past winter was the first one I had to. I didn't do anything and the bike seemed fine. I heard others had issues.

If the bike is only going to sit a month or two like you mentioned, you don't have to do anything. Just let it sit. Any longer, consider having fresh oil in the engine and tranny, a full tank of gas, a battery tender or occasionally charging the battery. Do a search and you'll find several threads on storing a motorcycle.

I just do the millage maintenance due at the time, put in fresh fuel with stabil, and put my bikes up on the stands with the Optimate connected to the battery.

If you are storing less than 6 months, do nothing. Maybe disconnect the battery, other than that don't bother. Even ethanol gas is fine sitting for nearly a year (first hand experience).

My winter riding routine when I wasn't able to ride all winter was to keep a bottle of Stabil & a can of Seafoam in the back. Whenever I filled up, I'd put in some Stabil & some Seafoam. If we got a sudden storm and the ground got covered in snow, the fuel was ready to go. I usually changed the oil before winter, and then didn't worry about it.

Just make sure you keep the tire pressure up, and it might be a good idea to disconnect the battery (or keep it on a charger). I froze more than one battery completely solid... not recommended.

Unlike Froggy, I don't think today's gas sits well for six months. I bought my DRZ cheap, because the carb was gummed up after a winter of storage. And my Harley runs like shit, I'm assuming for the same reason. I'm pulling the carb off this winter to see. Today's gas doesn't sit well.

I like Klotz octane boost for winter storage. This year, I had to buy PJ1'as octane boost, but according to the dealer, it's the same stuff.

Tony you are talking to different beasts.

Ethanol doesn't sit well with carbed bikes period.

Yes your fuel injected bike can sit for months with ethanol mixed gas.

Find an ethanol free gas station. I never put mixed gas in.

Garley's Party Doll in Belen would be the closest, at about 25 miles depending on which side of Albuquerque you live on.

I completely fill the tank and plug in the trickle charger. I've never had a problem following this procedure.

One of the problems with ethanol is that it will absorb water from the atmosphere. Keeping the amount of air to a minimum reduces this possibility. It will also keep steel gas tanks from rusting.

I've known people to have plug foul in the spring because of putting stuff like Stabil in their gas. Maybe they used to much? I really don't know. Never used it myself.

I think this video shows exactly what ethanol does over time. Stabilizer is strongly recommended for any length of time above a month.

It can't hurt. Or as the video shows, "Agitate" it before riding! HA!
