i push the start button and there is a hesitation before the bike wants to turn over, battery & connections are good. i am running a power outlet off the battery tender cable that is always on & a cable for my heated gear that gets plugged in after the bike is started. but isn't the uly power outlet always on and both bikes have the same charging system? must mention it is starting to get colder here in the mid atlantic region. i hope this is not a prelude to the stator going up. i am trying to work from the battery on out but need a little more direction with trouble shooting |

I know you said the battery is good but the hesitation is a dead giveaway of a weak battery. I would connect a multimeter and monitor the voltage while starting and for a short ride. If you don't keep a tender on the bike and or ride it once a week, the battery voltage drops as the temperature drops. After a decent ride stop and start the bike to see if the hesitation is still there. |

battery is only 2 years old already took the battery to a battery store they tested it and said it has 400 CCA. i had been riding it for 4-5 days straight and it would hesitate on start up after sitting for only a few hours. |

Do you have means or know how to check the current draw on the battery when the bike is off? Do you have a service manual? There are several threads on this forum on how to check the stator and voltage regulator. |

my 07 12R does the same thing after it's been sitting for a while. I assume it's my battery going down. I bought it used so I have no clue how old it is (probably says somewhere on the batt same as car batts but I havent looked). I imagine I will worry about it the day it doesnt turn over. Til then - im riding the wheels off |

I had a similar situation where my S had a good 2-3 second hesitation before it actually started. It was bad enough that I was worried about not being able to start at work so I pulled the battery out and had it tested at my FLAPS; tested just fine. I did my breather reroute last night and found the rear cylinder breather wasn't plugged in at all, and the throttle body nipple for California models was missing the vacuum cap. Fixed those during the reroute and now it starts no problem. |

My 07 12R has the same hesitation issue when cranking from cold. I put it down to oil viscosity, because it cranks just fine when the engine is warm. I've owned the bike for 3 years with the original battery, and it has always been this way - no better, no worse, so I don't think it's due to a failing battery. |

The same with my 08XT. It has been that way since day one. A new battery made no difference. No hesitation when warm. I always keep the bike on a battery tender. The grounds have been cleaned and tightened previously. |

My xb9sx also hesitates on cold starts and sometimes my trip meters and clock will reset on this hesitation I also bought mine used and the previous owner had replaced the stock battery with a dry cell. |

Well if your trip meter is resetting the battery voltage is too low. Anytime the voltage drops below 8 or 9 volts the trip meter will reset. The Battery Tender Jr works great for these bikes and they are only around $25. |

my 12r used to turn, pause, then fire up. even after a new battery, same thing. i chalk it up to the nature of the beast. it really is a long stroke to have to turn over to get it going. my old harley did the same thing too. i agree with mtnmason. run it!! |
