ok, so I already have this over on another site, but there's a bunch of people on here that give great advice. the sh*t keeps coming and today wasn't any different. On my way home I was riding down the interstate and all of the sudden my bike's exhaust got really loud, naturally I pull over to check and see what it might be. Just by looking I couldn't tell anything other than the noise right off of the bat. I checked my race can since I've already had to weld it once, the muffler checked out so I moved up to the headers and checked the studs. I couldn't see any missing or see any cracks in the header, but when I started it up I could feel air escaping off of the rear header. I hope back on the bike and ride down the road a bit to get a little closer to home. I got about 10 or 15 miles before my bike hiccuped and the cel came on. well I could tell immediately that it was because the bike was hot, so I sat there while my bike cooled down. once it had cooled down I continued upon my way. the next time the cel came on I stopped again and noticed this time that my seat had gotten incredibly hot while riding. I took off the seat and checked to see if anything was abnormal. The header must have cracked and was blowing toward the fan because I could see it moving. once it had cooled I put the seat back on and drove til I was a couple of miles from home and the light came on again, when I stopped this time I noticed that the fan didn't kick on, seemed abnormal but I was almost home and my phone was dying so I couldn't call for a lift. so I drive into town and my bike dies about 2 blocks from my house so I push it the rest of the way, when I got home I found my fan melted from the heat coming from the header. or so I thought. it was in fact a piece of the cylinder, I don't know how but it seems to have blown a chunk out of it

what part blew out? Do you mean the headgasket? |

Looks like you popped your headgasket and since you kept it running, it acted like a torch and zapped everything behind the engine. I hope that didn't kill the mating surfaces of the head/cylinder. |

whats wrong with the cylinder? From the pic it just looks like the headgasket needs to be replaced. |

Did a head bolt snap to release the tension? |

I couldn't get my camera to take the picture without being blurry but that big white spot is where it got melted after the gasket went out I don't have a reason for the gasket going, but everything looked fine other than the cylinder as I was tearing it apart (Message edited by wolfo68 on October 29, 2011) |
