I've been in the garage for the past hour trying to get the stupid crimp-on hose clamp off and have only succeeded in screwing up the paint on the starter and the cases. there isn't room for anything in there. |

i made room. Then used a pair of dikes to cut the clamp.Cool clamps p/n10080 require a cheap $7 crimper.Or you could replace with a screw clamp. The pre-bent hose(if you're replacing is p/n62352-94b. The hose routes around the starter and under the rear header across the engine to the LH lower frame where it's attached by a corner clamp held in place by p/nc0033.02a8 plastic fastener tree(perishable). That clamp also holds other stuff I stocked up on plenty of those trees because i see disassembly once every year or two. Those silly buttons also secure the wiring harness to the frame at strategic points.they're important. Just what is it you're fooling around with the hose clamp for???????????????? |

I wanted to change out the hose before I gave the bike its end-of-season bath, since it has been laying against the rear header and has a huge hole burned into it. I'd really rather not drop the engine and pull the starter to get this POS off. If I must, I guess I must. do you have a P/N for the starter gasket? |

You DO NOT NEED to drop the engine. You can do the engine rotation only and i recommend starter removal because you cann clean out the built up gunk as you can see collected under mine.Spic-and-Span clean now. I just wanted to offer some perspective.Buy some of those buttons, they're silly cheap and the job will be BETTER done. edit: My bike is a 2005 XBr.Yours will differ a little (Message edited by ducxl on September 17, 2011) |

I'd just cut out the hole and slip a piece of thin wall metal tube in. Header won't melt that. |

You can pull the primary cover off and remove the starter bolts without rotating the engine too! Slowly back out the starter bolts each a little at a time as you pull the starter out from the right side. Otherwise you will have to remove the clutch shell to get the starter bolts out. I rerouted my hose so that it runs between the rear cylinder and the starter to the left of the bike, goes up through the metal retainer and then wraps up and over the outside of the fan housing, but stays inside the frame. It stays completely clear of the exhaust and never gets crimped from trying to run outside of the frame through the shock mount. |

Interesting solution Eric. The least invasive i'd call it.I don't like the proximity of the hose to the header.Careful attention to that leads to success. |

Out of interest, where does all the oil come from on top of the cases. Mine is filthy and was thinking I had something leaky. |

I believe it's mostly from the stator grommet visible in my first pic.I sealed it with Ducati branded "3 Bond" same as Yammabond or Hondabond liquid silicone gasket maker.I've had great success proving it out on my X1.I HATE oil leaks/weeps and chase them vigorously. Some say it's the starter or base gaskets. That may be true in some cases. |

so, I finally got around to ordering parts. I received a total of three of those plastic trees! I was hoping they were $2 a bag! (my fault for not checking on the units, but still) |

this looks more promising. $6 for 20 3/16 hole, .580 length push-in rivet (Message edited by argentcorvid on January 25, 2012) (Message edited by argentcorvid on January 25, 2012) |
