Not really bike related, but I was at San Diego HD (Kearny Mesa location)yesterday and they have three Buell Vanson leather jackets, two are blue and one is red, all are large I think. All were too small for my 6'4" 185lb frame. The jackets are in their clearance section in the back of the store..

I don't really go in there too often. They seem lost every time I try to get a part. I sent my wife to get a flashed relay for the bike and the didn't know what to look for unless the had a part number. That's not my job, is it? Just sayin. Thank god American Sport Bike had what I needed, no questions asked! Love Al and Joanne!!

A popular fallacy is that Harley parts department personnel know or should know something about motorcycle parts.

Actually, this is actively discouraged by Motor Company Policy.

It was tried at an Ohio dealership in the twenties, but the personnel stole most of the parts, and resold them out of beat up old work van in a bad part of town.

Old Mr. Davidson hit on the idea of hiring low IQ personnel who were only intelligent enough to find part number boxes, but not clever enough to look them up in the parts book, to see what they were.

As any Harley customer knows, this system is not perfect, (what system is?), because it depends on putting the part in the right cardboard box, some of which get a bit deteriorated after thirty or forty years of use.

Am I right, my brothers?

I don't see where a heads up about some desirable Buell Vanson jackets gets turned into a dealer service bashing

Well Mike, it sort of went down like this.

1. Royce found some cool Vanson jackets at at dealer, stuffed in back of the store.

2. Dave recalled that he had been to that self same dealer, and that they never seemed to know what to look for unless he had the part number.

3. I pointed out that this situation was pretty much standard operating procedure for the Motor Company for some time. Since I have been in and out of Motor Company Dealerships starting some fifty years ago, I was giving back some of my experience to the group.

OK?

I was actually impressed that the dealership still had me in they computer system after 11 years. I last was at the dealer in 2000 or 1999.. Being from New Hampshire I do not get too often..

Speaking of Harley dealers, I do have very good luck at Manchester Harley in Manchester NH, they were/are the area's Buell dealer and find they are pretty on the ball when talking Buells.

Every time I went there, their issue was the Buell parts numbering system. The older guy I think his name is Al, bald, beard, big gut, always was willing to help. The younger guys didn't know jack and complained about Buell stuff all the time, because most of the time they had to go into the catalogs to look something up, it wasn't in their computer system. I only went there because i was ten minutes away. But if you are in San Diego, just get your stuff from American Sport Bike. It's worth it to ride up there and see his sweet collection of bikes. Al, Joanne, and Xena are cool too Oil, filters, and plugs I just got from Napa. And those Jackets have been there a loooong time.

Back to the subject of Vanson jackets, I am afraid Roycet4 will never find one that fits. The Vansons have a specific cut that seems to favor short, round people(Vanson quality rules, and I wish I fit them, so no one get their panties in a wad). I had one for a while, and sold it because the trunk was just too short and roomy.

I called SD-HD and they sold the last one yesterday, She asked if I heard about it on a "forum" I told her yes. She asked me to tell the forum "people" not to call anymore "cause we're out" "and don't need a bunch of people calling". I commented that yea it really sucks, customers getting in the way like that. Other than that she was nice on the phone, even called me Honey :-)
PS I'm looking for a blue one in large.
