Just installed an Erik Buell Racing ECU programmed for my stock '09 XB12X. Very simple job, save getting at the #!!$#&%! locknut way up under a cowling above the rear shock. The bike definitely runs more smoothly, especially noticeable in sedate cruising mode, and I'm suffering less heat on my right thigh that I did before. Not sure if the latter is because it runs richer than stock, and/or the fact that the fan seems to now always stay on whenever the engine's running and the bike is going faster than a walk. I was surprised that the fan wasn't coming back on when I shut down the engine, though, and not wanting to incur any engine reliability issues, I queried Erik Buell Racing about it. Their prompt response was as follows: "That is the 2010 Buell OE fan strategy that was fully tested and in fact is better for engine life as well as rider comfort." Yay! |
