... And i'm not happy about it. I was making a right hand turn @ an intersection. It was one of those turns that has a merge lane so, It wasnt quite a 90 degree-angle-type of turn. i took it at a moderate speed but due to the nature of this turn (crosswalks, etc.) there are a lot of painted lines. I have also been riding on tires that are old, hard, and all-around crappy (shinkos). in mid corner (low rpm, 2nd gear) The bike just fell out from under me. The speed @ which everything happened makes me think the front washed out. I didnt feel and sloppyness from the rear... it just fell. I also wasn't touching the front rear brakes @ all. I try to make it a habit to keep my fingers and toes completely off the brakes while cornering. Overall, I was riding too fast for the given environment. Crappy tires, White painted lines. I may have been able to keep the front afloat with more throttle but, that's all hindsight. Somehow... I came out without a scratch. and Somehow, my jeans held up. There are some scuffs on the palms of my gloves where my wrists hit the concrete but, otherwise, I got away scott free. My 04 xb12 Lightning on the other hand... Not so lucky. A quarter-sized scrape on one of the header down-pipes. A scuffed up frame puck (i"m SO glad i bought these). A broken front brake lever (busted off at the pivot point). a ground-down rear brake pedal. A slightly Scratched up swing arm. I'm more dissapointed than anything. I'm glad I'm safe tho. I'll try and post some pics later. so... anyone got any spare parts i can take off your hands? |

That sucks man, sorry to hear, but glad you are ok! I almost did this about a year ago, My g/f was on the back and I turned of the highway right over freshly laid thick white ped. crosswalk strips and the front tire started to wash out...Holy crap scary moment! My reaction was a quick foot down and luckily I saved it Good luck with the repairs. |

I had the rear (on my FLHP) step out on me twice today!! Once on a steel man hole cover while making a right hand turn and once while making a U-turn over yellow paint lines. Nothing major, but certainly an attention getter... |

I pulled out of a parking lot the other day going to the left while accelerating and felt the rear walk a little. It was probly just the awsome power of my glide though. The Uly seems to stick like glue in all conditions. D616's |

A few years ago, Florida went to low VOC road paint. It goes on too "dry" and the glass beads (that provide the reflective properties) are like tiny ball bearings. We have a lot of new road projects all the time. They all get painted with that lousy paint...don't run across it in a corner. I have had my bikes step out because of it, and I run high quality tires...oddly enough, one of the stickiest tires I have used (Q2) are the worst about it. |

Just replaced my pr2`s yesterday. 2 rears to 1 front. They were both at their wear bars but still had minimal tread. I noticed they had lost some performance this month and got some 2 up riding coming up next week so I put a set of Angels on that I had , the rear is the E construction for loaded sport tourers. Sounds like I did good not to get total life out of the old tires. The bike certainly tips in different than it did and feels a lot better for now. Hope ya get the scooter fixed and I`ll keep dodging painted stuff and manhole covers! |

Yeah... I spent a good chunk of change this weekend. I know I said i'd post pics but, most of the damage was repaired after work on friday. I replaced the front brake lever (with an R1 unit) for $20 as opposed to the $50 lever from harley. I wrapped the headers to cover the scratch/dent. I took a file to my rear brake pedal to clean up the scuffs. New LED blinkers are on order. Right side mirror has already been replaced(i've got a few extras laying around) The only noticable damage remaining is the scuffage on my frame puck and the (very small) scratches on the bottom my my swingarm. I'm gonna pull the bike off the road for it's 20k mile service. It'll get new tires, paint, blinkers, and a few other mods. I might replace the frame puck and fix the swing arm then Good as new! watch out for those white lines folks! |

Burgur - Did you have axle sliders? Would you recommend them? |

Cowboyks, I did not have them. Would I recommend them? HECK yes. I've seen a home-made setup where you make sliders out of hard-durometer skateboard wheels with some threaded rod. Shouldn't cost any more than $20-$30 I think they look pretty cool and in-theory will be very effective. When I paint my bike in a few weeks I'm going to get some white skateboard wheels and try it myself. I only wish I would have done it earlier... |
