The rivets are loose and the cover is rattling away.

I'm going to put new rivets in but manual says they are specific, special HD rivets.

Really, are they?

use some self threading screws with fine thread or a tap with fine thread and some phillips screws



i used a M5 tap and some phillips

There is no reason to use them, I used standard rivets on my X1.

The holes in the timing plate are just right to thread with a 10/32 tap.

I used some stainless allen heads to fix my old school tuber Pegasus cover, painted to match the cases of my XB 12SR, Lil' Blackie.

I thought the problem with the standard pop rivets is that they could pop the head into the crank sensor area.

I just tap mine for screws if I have it apart.

#10-32 screws unless the rivets were loose long enough to wreck the holes.

any XL Sportster cover fits I have a OLD #7 Jack cover on One of mine. I just tapped the holes and put in screws that came with the derby. #10 screws with a little blue lock-tight.
