Hell I been on this board for a few days now, and I get the impression that there are a lot of guys with a lot of hatred and ill-feelings towards Buell, man in about every positive discussion there is at leas one guy that queries the reliability, quality or the bloody political correctness of the engine noises. The funny thing that I noticed was a lot of these guys are owners of 9's, I think somehow they feel cheated that Buell listened to them and bought out the 12. So here is my opinion, stop your whining...and think what inspired you in the first place to buy a Buell and here is my take on my XB12R, yes it is really noisy, no it does not break down, no not all dealers are idiots and YES THEY ARE BLOODY AWESOME BIKES !!

I have no animosity towards anyone.
I could've had any bike I wanted.
I could've (still can) traded for a 12.
I like to think I had a small part in showing SMHD/Buell that Buelling isn't something to be feared but embraced.
I also realize you're not talking to me either.
21,000 + miles and the only thing that went was my stator. The guys at SMHD/Buell found that it was back-ordered for a few weeks, knew I loved to ride, and took one off a brand new bike just to make me happy!
Yes there are people here that are less than Buell friendly. But, hell how man crowds of people are you gonna find with the ratio of cool people vs. asshats like the BadWeB?
Besides there's one (at least) in every crowd.

YES THEY ARE BLOODY AWESOME BIKES !!
Agreed
And I love my XB9S!!!

Lots of guys are just blowing off steam.
no big deal. We all hang here, because we have some feelings, good or bad, or a mix of both about our brand of Motorsickle.

also no 9 owner should fear the 12, at least I do not. on the street I believe they are so close, the rider makes the winner.

No animosity here. Love my 9 and a lot of other bikes. Don't get me wrong, I was a bit peeved when the 12 came out one month after I bought mine...had no clue it was coming...but as it's turned out, I love it and and don't miss what I could have had!

Johnny,

You always have two sides to every story. Some guys are willing to take the HD crap and just ride the Buell, try to enjoy it and not get stuck on the fact the motor isn't a "sportbike" powerplant.

Some, like myself and others can get fed up at times with incompetent dealerships, mysterious oil leaks, and that dams rev limiter... ; )

Not a big deal so try to take the two sides to the story in stride.

Buell is not a godsend to the motorcycle industry or riders any more than Dyna's new R1 - they're machines to ride & enjoy and improve upon day in an day out.

I don’t think there is much owner animosity over Buell coming out with the xb12’s after the 9’s. I think what you are perceiving is more a result of peoples negative experiences with the tube frame bikes and some bad dealers.

Actually, I don't see any animosity. I see folks bonding and communicating as emotionally as close friends sitting across the the table from one another.

Sure you see some frustration posted, but you need to remember most folks communicate better verbally than they do in written form. Having a multi level discussion on a sensitive topic on a board like this is probably the most unique challenge there is concerning communication skills.

Read it all with a grain of salt and you will derive a lot of good from it all. If you want to expand upon the experience, get out and meet as many Buellers as you can and then imagine different voices, mannerisms, intensities, etc., as you read the postings.

Sort of the "Theatre of the Mind" but it works. I took a class once where the instructor taught so much better than the book yet praised the author highly. We all thought she was nuts and should have written the text. Well, one night she was ill and the "Author" was her substitute. All it took was a few minutes of listening to his speech patterns and both reading and comprehending the book became a piece of cake.

Wondering how this could happen? Simple it was an in depth book for a complicated desktop publishing program and it turned out the author was a fifty-something flaming homosexual. If you read the material in his effeminate speech pattern it was both entertaining and easily understood. To this day, I still do the LMAO thing when I think of that experience.

Addendum:

I would really like to meet 420@145mph someday. I keep applying different characteristics to his posts and think I have created a mental monster. LOL

420 probably is a great guy with a mixture of experiences and motivations behind his written communications. Without the benefit of meeting face-to-face, it is way too easy to label him and that may be a severe injustice.

Then again, there is that Dyna Dude. If we weren't personal friends I would have had a completely negative image of him. Turns out that is farthest from the truth. However, he does love to tease folks much like a comedian.

Is interesting how those that appear offensive on the board are nice people in real life.

You can’t please all the people all the time

Point me to a single bike specific board that doesn’t have its share of disgruntled riders.
I try to keep up to date on the boards of the different models we own. There are always a handful of disenchanted riders trying to sway the flock (like the guy staggering down the streets of New York with “The end is near” sign)

Check them out and post even one message board that has 100% satisfaction. It doesn’t exist.

I can honestly say that I have never had a single problem with my Buell S3 or XB.

Oh, find me a board that thinks that their dealer network is awesome and always there to support them while at the same time never taking a single penny more than what is absolutely necessary. If you can find that let me know also because that’s a brand I want to buy.

I know atleast one person who bought an xb9 for full retail and one weeks later Buell dropped the price of the new models by 1000 dollars.

And then two weeks later Buell comes out with the XB12 model.

Me, i have a XB12 and love it, But its still a huge sore spot for some people.

"You couldn't pay me to own a 12"??

That's pretty strong talk toward a bike I own and love.

I`m not really a big fan of the amber treatment on the 12 either. But i am a fan of the extra HP and TQ of the 1200 motor.

Mine is soon to be a 1430.

Too funny, I don't care for the amber treatment either, but it looks like many do. Good thing it isn't functional and can be changed by the owner.

I would rather have a 9 and some engine work to get the extra 20 ponies the 12 has on it. The higher rev limiter (Althought not that much higher) is more to my liking.

The 12's are fun, I have ridden both the X and R versions, but I like the 9 series better.

And I'second everything that Cro13 said

Just curious -- if you take a 9, and put a 12 "kit" on it, what impact does that have on the redline? Afterall, a 12 is just a stroked 9, right? Would doing internal engine work required for the extra ponies have any effect on the redline?

I wasn't dissing the 12 at all....and it has nothing to do with color.

I just beleieve the 9 is a better format with the shorter stroke for a sportbike.
the extra 10 hp don't add up to me but the quicker reving and higher rpms does. but thats just me.

now if they would have kept the short stroke and big bored it to 1200 I would have been all over that.

everybodys got their opinons.

I just think asking if their is animosity because they came out with the 12 is kinda screwy.

I've owned six Buells since 1996. Still have 3 of them.
I like my 9R a lot. I paid full retail when the bike first came out.
I wish it had the throttle response that my 98 S1 has with the race kit and Mikuni Carb
My S3 is that same way, it needs better response.
The Suspension and ride is the best on the XB.
All three bikes are great in the twisties.

The best power = My little 91 HP (non-Thunderstorm Heads) Lightning. It has the power and will get you in trouble the quickest. But I think my Cannondale Mt bike has a better seat.

The S3 is best for long rides, Great Sport Touring bike of my 3 rides.

XB9R, has the lowest power but uses what it has to the fullest. I think I'm fastest on the XB.

As for the 12R. I test rode a few of them and I like the power delivery of the 9 better.

What I really want is an S1 with the ride and suspension of the XB's. Is that bike a 12S???
