/que the worlds tinniest violin

I bought my D&D pipe about a year ago. I have loved the sound and always enjoyed the pipe.
Today, when I went to put the nose "fairing" back on my bike, and noticed something disturbing.

The entire front end of the pipes "plate" was broken. If you look at a D&D there is a support bar that comes off the header/pipe joint and goes down to the plate. From that point forward, the plate was sheared/cracked. When I went to inspect it further, it came right off with minimal effort. Now, the first thing I did was wonder how long its been like this. Some of the damage appears new, while the rest is old. I could tell due to the oxidation on the "wound".

I dont have access to a welder, and this is just one more problem I have had with this bike this month. None of the problems are what I would call major, but problems none the less.

Bubba/Kevin - how much would it be for a drummer, with no pipe to send in for the exchange?

I am in no way bashing D&D, and really, I dont think the problem is caused by defect in workmanship. At the same time, I havent done anything to the bike (well, since my low side in March - even then, that didnt really do anything to the front of the bike) that I am aware of which could cause the shearing of that thick metal plate like that.
Would't the front tire striking that plate cause the tire to have problems/stearing problems.

I dont think I've done it dropping down off a curb (our excellent parking does come at a price), and I cant imagine how that plate could shear like it did.

I am really just venting/whinning. So blow it off if you like. I will get some pictures posted up tomorrow when the light is out so I can take pictures.

Sorry for the whine.

Chgojim -
I may take you up on that, I got a call into the folks at D&D to see what they can do.

Are you going to be putting that pipe on the market any time soon?

I've got about 12,000 miles on my D&D. I guess I had better take a close look at it...

I have had mine on for 15 months now. first noticed welds busting last fall on right side brackets. Next came front left bracket and then just a month ago noticed a shear line beginning from front left to right along that plate. Before I could get to my buddies welding unit the whole thing sheared across. Bad thing about all this is that the fairing mounting points have all cracked or broken apart as result of the additional shaking. So, I am debating drummer or maybe torching off the rest of the fairing support brackets and the rest of the front plate and run without the fairing. If I go the route of the drummer then I will need to buy new plastic because the old is busted up. Might be a good way of justifying spending more money ....maybe on new color for the whole bike??

Sorry for not getting the photo's up today as promised.
I had to stop off at the dealership to get yet more problems addressed.

"Nothing Major" as they put it to me BUT.. The rivetts on the timing chain cover let loose, one while I was on the way to the shop, the other when the service manager slightly pulled on it. He insisted on getting it taken care of right then and there, even though "its nothing major". I bought him a diet coke and I may have scored a replacement primary cover while there. So... the bikes in the shop getting taken care of (hopefully she will get a much needed bath while she's there).

On the D&D side. I spoke to a gentleman with D&D today. He said to give him a holler when the pipe is off the bike so he can have FEDEX pick it up. He told me "more than likely" I will just get a new pipe. He said something about the folks in the coating area more than likely wont be able to recoat my old pipe and they will just send me another one.

Chgojim - please send me an email at dfelipe_@hotmail.com or just pm me. I want to talk to you about that pipe you offered up.

Tiki -
I may take you up on that. But I think you would prefer to have the replacement rather than the broken one.

I've been toying with the idea of a drummer, and ChgoJim has made a generous offer to me.
I just need to get some of the finacial details worked out (in the middle of saving up for a house, so I gotta pinch every penny every day!)

depends on the price. I just can't justify the cost of a new one. The drummer would be better powerwise, but at 130 pounds soaking wet, I ain't gonna notice the loss.

That's what happens when you feed 'em those hash doggie cookies -- they get the munchies and go on a kibble-bender.

Next thing you know they're swallowing whole chickens and small children and they weigh more than you do!

; )

That little pup seems awful mellow. He must have gotten into someones stash. Bads1 is right though he looks to be about the same size as on of Goliath's dumps.

Still, all three of mine don't equal one of either of those. But I don't needs dogs for protection. That's what I'm for.
