Ok, simple question here. I know it isn't needed on a road going bike, but how hard would it be to make something similar to the duct that cools the front caliper on the 1125RR and the 1190? I occasionally ride my brakes pretty hard and was thinking that it would be cool to have a little better airflow on the pads. I haven't seen the duct system for sale on the Erik Buell Racing site. I would imagine that holes would have to be drilled in the caliper for the ducts to function. Any ideas or theories? I'm just throwing it out there to kick around. Thanks all. | ||

Get some cardboard and fiberglass, or some thin sheet metal, and go at it. Brake ducting is very well understood in the automotive realm, though I believe there it's mostly to cool the rotor. Just getting a blast of air directed at the caliper should make a big difference. Though, honestly, unless you're a very skilled racer, it *just doesn't matter.* Good brake fluid + good pads are more than capable of handling everything most riders will throw at it. Have you ever had the brakes fade with good pads & fresh fluid? Also, are you using the ZTL or the ZTL2 system? If you ride your XB hard, the ZTL2 brakes are a bolt-on swap (you'll want the bigger master cylinder too), and are a big improvement on the ZTL system for hard use. ... if you just want to build a brake duct for fun, go at it & post pics.  I'd certainly love to see them! | ||

I have the ZTL2 on her currently. After I went and looked at the caliper, there are holes where the ducts run to on the 1125RR. All new DOT4 by Prestone along with the larger M/C. I'm aware that it would do almost nothing for me on the street, but it still looks like a pretty cool setup. I'll see what I can come up with and keep all posted. Thanks for the response. As far as pads, I went with the EBC HH pads from American Sport Bike that Al recommended. | ||

I just heated the fender and formed a scoop on our XBRR, and it made all the difference on the world. I was pretty flattered when I saw the same thing done to McWilliams' race bike. | ||
